Knowledge about diabetes mellitus type ii and lifestyles in patients cared for in the medicine service of a national hospital, Lima 2023

Abstract

The objective of this study was to determine the relationship between the knowledge of type 2 diabetes mellitus and lifestyles in patients served in the medical service from a national hospital, lima 2023, for which the methodology used was quantitative, applied, observational, correlational and cross-sectional, whose sample consisted of 100 users cared for in the medical service. The instruments used were the DKQ-24 to measure knowledge of diabetes mellitus and the IMEVID to measure lifestyles. The results showed a low leve lof knowledge about type 2 diabetes mellitus (49%) and unhealthy lifestyles (53%). Regarding the correlation of the variable’s knowledge and lifestyles, the value was p=0.000 < 0.05. Regarding the knowledge variable in its basic knowledge dimensión, a low level was evidenced with unhealthy lifestyles (36%), p=0.018 < 0.05. Regarding the knowledge variable, in its knowledge dimensión about glycemia, a low level was presented with unhealthy lifestyles (39%), p=0.004 < 0.05. Regarding the knowledge wariable in its preventive knowledge dimensión, a low level was evidenced with unhealthy lifestyles (35%), p=0.028 < 0.05. In conclusión there is a significant relationship (r=0.930; p=0.000 < 0.05) between the knowledge of type 2 diabetes mellitus and lifestyles in patients cared for in the medical service of a national hospital, Lima 2023.

Objetivo: Determinar la relación entre los Conocimientos de la diabetes mellitus tipo II y los estilos de vida en pacientes atendidos en el servicio de medicina de un hospital nacional, Lima 2023. Material y métodos: El enfoque metodologico fue cuantitativo, aplicada, observacional, correlacional y transversal, cuya muestra estuvo conformada por 100 usuarios atendidos en el servicio de medicina. Los instrumentos utilizados fueron el DKQ-24 para medir los conocimientos de la diabetes mellitus que estuvo conformado por 24 items dividido en 3 dimensiones y el IMEVID para medir los estilos de vida que estuvo conformado por 25 items dividido en 7 dimensiones; ambos instrumentos cuentan con la validez y la confiabilidad requeridas
