Level of knowledge and nursing practices on the prevention of pressure injuries in older adults of the medical service of the Hospital Leonardo Barton del Callao, 2022

Abstract

The work carried out by nursing professionals is extremely relevant within hospital settings, especially when it refers to the care of vulnerable patients such as the elderly. This situation becomes much more necessary in the case of those who are hospitalized for long periods of time, since they are exposed to various problems such as pressure ulcers. However, it has been possible to detect that the nurses of a hospital in Callao do not have sufficient knowledge and prevention practices to prevent its incidence in the elderly. OBJECTIVE: to determine the relationship between the level of knowledge and nursing practices on the prevention of pressure ulcers in older adults at a hospital in Callao, 2022. MATERIALS AND METHODS: quantitative, basic, cross-sectionalnon-experimental, descriptive and correlational research. The sample will be 80 nurses; To measure the two variables, a questionnaire and an observation sheet will be used to measure nursing knowledge and practices on pressure pressure injuries respectively, both instruments were developed in 2021. The data that is collected will be emptied into a table prepared in Excel 2021 and from there it will be transferred to SPSS vs. 27, in order to carry out the descriptive statistics, which will be presented in tables and figures, and the inferential statistics that will allow the testing of hypotheses to determine if there is a relationship between variables, for this the non-parametric test of Spearman's Rho will be applied.

La labor que cumplen los profesionales de enfermería es de suma relevancia dentro de los entornos hospitalarios, especialmente cuando se refiere al cuidado de pacientes vulnerables como los adultos mayores. Esta situación se hace mucho más necesaria en el caso de aquellos que se encuentran hospitalizados por periodos amplios de tiempo, pues se encuentran expuestos a diversas problemáticas como las úlceras por presión. Sin embargo, se ha podido detectar que los enfermeros de un hospital del Callao no cuentan con los conocimientos y prácticas de prevención suficientes para prevenir su incidencia en los adultos mayores. MATERIALES Y MÉTODOS: investigación cuantitativa, básica, transversal-no experimental, descriptivo y correlacional. La muestra será de 80 enfermeras; para medir las dos variables se utilizarán un cuestionario y una ficha de observación que permitirán medir los conocimientos y prácticas de enfermería sobre prevención de úlceras por presión respectivamente, ambos instrumentos fueron elaborados el año 2021. Los datos que se recojan se vaciarán a una tabla elaborada en Excel 2021 y de ahí se trasladará al SPSS vs. 27, a fin de realizar las estadísticas descriptivas, que se presentarán en tablas y figuras, y las estadísticas inferenciales que permitirán realizar la contrastación de hipótesis para determinar si existe relación entre variables, para ello se aplicará la prueba no paramétrica de Rho de Spearman.
