Sitting versus lateral decubitus position in the management of headache after dural puncture in post-surgical patients

Abstract

Objective: Systematize the evidence on the sitting position versus lateral decubitus in the control of headache after a dural puncture in post-surgical patients. Materials and methods: The work responds to the quantitative approach, systematic review design, population 16 articles and the sample of 10 studies, studies were located in the database: Scielo, Pubmed, PubMed, Elsevier, Epistemonikos. Results: Of 10 articles investigated, 70% (n= 8/10) are Randomized Clinical Trials, 10% (n= 1/10) are Systematic Reviews and another 10% (n = 1/10) are Cases and Controls. , according to the place where the 100% studies were published, 30% correspond to Colombia, 20% to Iran, 20% to Turkey and with a 10% are Spain, India and China respectively. Conclusion: Of 10 articles analyzed, 6 of 10 report that the lateral decubitus position has better efficacy for controlling headache after dural puncture in post-surgical patients than the sitting position, and 4 of the 10 articles indicate that there is no sufficient scientific evidence to affirm that the lateral decubitus position is more effective in controlling headache after dural puncture in post-surgical patients than the sitting position, however in the context From what has been described, we must state that it is necessary to carry out other systematic reviews in this regard because there were some limitations such as access to the full text of the article, which is why they were excluded.

Objetivo: Sistematizar las evidencias sobre la posición sentada versus decúbito lateral en el control de la cefalalgia después de una punción dural en pacientes post quirúrgicos. Materiales y métodos: El trabajo responde al enfoque cuantitativo, diseño revisión sistemática, población 16 artículos y la muestra de 10 estudios, se ubicaron estudios en la base de datos: Scielo, Pubmed, PubMed, Elsevier, Epistemonikos. Resultados: De 10 artículos investigados, el 70% (n= 8/10) son Ensayos Clinicos Aleatorizados, 10% (n= 1/10) es Revisión Sistematica y otro 10% (n = 1/10) es de Casos y Controles, según el lugar donde fueron publicados los estudios del 100%, el 30% corresponden a Colombia, el 20% a Iran, el 20% a Turquía y con un 10% están España, India y China respectivamente. Conclusión: De 10 artículos analizados, 6 de 10 refieren que la posición decúbito lateral tiene una mejor eficacia para el control de la cefalalgia después de la punción dural en pacientes post quirúrgicos que la posición sentada, y 4 de los 10 artículos señalan que no hay evidencia científica suficiente para afirmar que la posición decúbito lateral tiene mayor eficacia en el control de la cefalalgia después de la punción dural en pacientes post quirúrgicos que la posición sentada, sin embargo en el marco de lo descrito debemos de manifestar que es necesario realizar otras revisiones sistemáticas al respecto debido a que se tuvo algunas limitaciones como es el acceso al texto completo del artículo, por lo que fueron excluidos.
