Exclusive breastfeeding and nutritional status of children under 6 months served in the growth and development office of a health center in Lima, 2023

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between exclusive breastfeeding and the nutritional status of children under 6 months of age who are cared for in the growth and development clinic at a Health Center in Lima, 2023. The methodology was framed in the method hypothetical deductive, under the quantitative approach, adopted a type of applied research, with a non-experimental design, of a correlational level, the sample was made up of 80 mothers of infants from 0 to 6 months. Therefore, simple random probabilistic sampling was applied. To collect the data, the survey and documentary analysis were used. As instruments, the questionnaire was used, which measured the level of knowledge about exclusive breastfeeding through 15 items and a registration form for nutritional estimation. The instrument was validated taking into account the content with the opinion of experts, the reliability had a value of 0.7058, it was calculated using the Cronbach's Alpha coefficient. The results show a medium strong positive correlation between exclusive breastfeeding and nutritional status, obtaining a correlation value of 0.221 according to Spearman's rank coefficient and the significance was 0.049 < 0.05. It was concluded that there is a significant relationship between exclusive breastfeeding and the nutritional status of children under 6 months of age who receive care in the growth and development clinic at a Health Center in Lima, 2023.

Objetivo: determinar la relación entre la lactancia materna exclusiva y el estado nutricional niños menores de 6 meses que son atendidos en el consultorio de crecimiento y desarrollo en un Centro de Salud de Lima, 2023.Materiales y método: el método utilizado fue hipotético deductivo, bajo el enfoque cuantitativo, adoptó un tipo de investigación aplicada, con diseño no experimental, de nivel correlacional. La muestra fueron 80 madres de niños de 0 a 6 meses de edad. El instrumento fue validado por criterio de jueces expertos y la confiabilidad tuvo un valor de 0.7058, la misma se calculó utilizando el coeficiente Alfa de Cronbach. Los resultados muestran una correlación positiva fuerte media entre la lactancia materna exclusiva y el estado nutricional.
