Use of Glutamine in Cancer Patients

Abstract

The use of glutamine as part of the nutritional support received by cancer patients. The present secondary research entitled as a critical review: Use of Glutamine in oncological patients, aimed to determine the effectiveness of glutamine in oncological patients. The clinical question was: How effective and safe is glutamine in cancer patients? The Evidence-Based Nutrition (NuBE) methodology was used. The search was carried out in Pub Med, Science Direct, Scielo, Google Scholar, Elsevier Scopus, Cochrane, Springer, finding 149 Articles, 40 being selected that have been evaluated by the CASPE tool, selecting the Clinical Trial entitled Effects Of Oral Glutamine on Inflammatory and Autophagy Responses in Cancer Patients Treated With Abdominal Radiotherapy: A Pilot Randomized Trial, which has a level of evidence I and Grade of recommendation Strong, according to the researcher's expertise. The critical comment allowed us to conclude that glutamine has an effect on reducing the inflammatory response caused by the treatment; the effect must continue to be studied with a more rigorous methodology and on a larger scale.

El uso de la glutamina como parte del soporte nutricional que recibe el paciente oncológico. La presente investigación secundaria titulada como revisión crítica: Uso de la Glutamina en pacientes oncológicos, tuvo como objetivo determinar la efectividad de la glutamina en los pacientes oncológicos. La pregunta clínica fue ¿Qué eficacia y seguridad tiene la glutamina en el paciente oncológico? Se utilizó la metodología Nutrición Basada en Evidencia (NuBE). La búsqueda se realizó en Pub Med, Science Direct, Scielo, Google Scholar, Elsevier Scopus, Cochrane, Springer encontrando 149 Artículos, siendo seleccionados 40 que han sido evaluados por herramienta CASPE, seleccionando el Ensayo Clínico titulado Effects Of Oral Glutamine on Inflammatory and Autophagy Responses in Cancer Patients Treated With Abdominal Radiotherapy: A Pilot Randomized Trial, el cual posee un nivel de evidencia I y Grado de recomendación Fuerte, de acuerdo a la expertise del investigador. El comentario crítico permitió concluir que la glutamina tiene efecto en la disminución de la respuesta inflamatoria causada por el tratamiento, el efecto debe seguir siendo estudiado con una metodología más rigurosa y a una mayor escala.
