In vitro study of toothpastes with antibacterial agents and their efficacy against streptococcus mutans, Lima 2021

Abstract

The total sample consisted of 30 Petri dishes, divided into 20 elements for each toothpaste. The study was experimental, longitudinal, and comparative, where three toothpastes containing antibacterial agents were tested for their effectiveness against the ATTCC 25175 strain of Streptococcus mutans in vitro at 24 and 48 hours. Statistical analysis was conducted using the ANOVA test. Results: For all three toothpastes, the inhibition halo at 48 hours was different from that at 24 hours: the mean value for Colgate Kids was 12.95 at 24 hours and 14.25 at 48 hours. According to the ANOVA test, toothpastes containing antibacterial agents showed higher efficacy against the ATTCC 25175 strain of Streptococcus mutans. Conclusion: Toothpastes containing antibacterial agents have a greater effect on Streptococcus mutans.

La muestra total estuvo compuesta por 30 placas petri, divididos en 20 elementos para cada dentífrico. El estudio desarrollado fue experimental de corte longitudinal, comparativo, en el que se midió tres dentífricos que contienen agentes antibacterianos, los cuales tuvieron una mayor eficacia contra la cepa ATTCC 25175 de Streptococcus mutans in vitro en 24 y 48 horas. El análisis estadístico se realizó mediante la prueba estadística de Anova. Resultados: En los tres dentífricos el halo de inhibición a las 48 horas fue diferente que a las 24 horas: el valor de la media de Colgate kids fue de 12,9500 a las 24 horas y de 14,2500 a las 48 horas; con relación a la prueba Anova, se establece que, los dentífricos que contienen agentes antibacterianos tendrán una mayor eficacia contra la cepa ATTCC 25175 de Streptococcus mutans. Se concluye que los dentífricos que presentan agentes antibacterianos tienen mayor efecto sobre el streptococus mutans.
