Parenting styles and aggressiveness in fourth and fifth grade schoolchildren in a state school in the district of San Luis, Lima, 2020.

Abstract

To determine the relationship between parenting styles and aggression in fourth and fifth-grade primary school students, this study was carried out in a public school in the San Luis district of Lima in 2020. The method used was hypothetical-deductive, with a quantitative approach and a descriptive, correlational, and explanatory type of study, using a non-experimental, cross-sectional design. 174 students of both sexes, aged 11 to 12, participated. The Aggression Questionnaire (AQ) by Buss and Perry and the Parenting Styles Scale by Steinberg, adapted for the Peruvian context, were used as instruments. The main results showed a significant relationship between parenting styles and aggression, with higher aggression found in the neglectful style and lower aggression in the authoritative style. Additionally, the predominant style among the sample was authoritative, and it was found that the greater the commitment, behavioral control, and psychological autonomy perceived by the students from their parents, the lower the aggression levels.

A fin de determinar la relación entre estilos de crianza y agresividad, en escolares de cuarto y quinto de primaria, se llevó a cabo este estudio, en un colegio estatal del distrito de San Luis en la ciudad de Lima, año 2020. El método empleado fue el hipotético deductivo, de enfoque cuantitativo y el tipo de estudio fue descriptivo, correlacional y explicativo, de diseño no experimental de corte transversal. Participaron 174 escolares de sexo femenino y masculino, con edades de entre 11 y 12 años. Se utilizaron como instrumentos, el cuestionario de agresividad AQ de Buss y Perry y la escala para hallar estilos de crianza de Steinberg, adaptados ambos para el contexto peruano. Como principales resultados, se encuentra que existe relación significativa entre los estilos de crianza y la agresividad, encontrándose mayor agresividad en el estilo negligente y menor en el estilo autoritativo. Así mismo, se encuentra que el estilo predominante entre esta muestra fue el autoritativo y que entre mayor compromiso, control conductual y autonomía psicológica que perciben los escolares por parte de sus padres, menores son los niveles de agresividad, entre otros hallazgos importantes.
