Functional capacity is related to the quality of life of the older adult who attends the geriatrics service at a national hospital in Lima, 2023

Abstract

Objective: Determine how functional capacity is related to the quality of life of the older adult who attends the Geriatrics Service at a National Hospital in Lima, 2023. Methodology: The method was hypothetical-deductive, quantitative approach, applied type, descriptive, transversal. and correlational design. The population was made up of 100 older adults and the sample was 80. The technique was the survey and two validated instruments. Results: It is evident that older adults are between 70 and 79 years old, 50%, 57.5% are women, 67.5% have secondary education, and 33.8% are married. The functional capacity of dependence 55% and independence 45%. The quality of life is regular 45%, bad 30% and good 25%. Older adults who have a functional capacity for dependency show a 30% average quality of life. Conclusions: According to the Spearman correlation test, it is concluded that there is a statistically significant relationship between functional capacity and quality of life of the elderly who attend the Geriatrics Service at a National Hospital in Lima (Rho = 0.880, p = 0.019 < 0.05).

Objetivo: Determinar como la capacidad funcional se relaciona con la calidad de vida del adulto mayor que asiste al Servicio de Geriatría en un Hospital Nacional de Lima, 2023. Metodología: El método fue hipotético-deductivo, enfoque cuantitativo, tipo aplicada, descriptiva, transversal y diseño correlacional. La población estuvo conformada por 100 adultos mayores y la muestra de 80. La técnica fue la encuesta y dos instrumentos validados. Resultados: Se evidencia que los adultos mayores presentan las edades entre los 70 a 79 años 50%, son mujeres 57.5%, nivel secundario 67.5% y son casados 33.8%. La capacidad funcional de dependencia 55% e independencia 45%. La calidad de vida regular 45%, mala 30% y buena 25%. Los adultos mayores que presentan una capacidad funcional de dependencia manifiestan una calidad de vida regular 30%. Conclusiones: Según la Prueba de correlación de Spearman, se concluye que existe relación estadísticamente significativa entre la capacidad funcional y la calidad de vida del adulto mayor que asiste al Servicio de Geriatría en un Hospital Nacional de Lima, 2023.
