Effectiveness of Short-Term Psychodynamic Psychotherapy (STPP) in managing patients with depression

Abstract

Objective: Systematize the evidence on the effectiveness of Short-Term Psychodynamic Psychotherapy (STPP) in the treatment of depression. Material and Methods: Search algorithms were created and a search was carried out in the PubMed, TripdataBase and PlosOne metadata. Results: A total of 224 studies were reviewed and 10 met the inclusion criteria. Six of them were carried out in Canada (60%), then in the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Germany and Denmark with one publication each (10%) respectively. Eight studies confirm that STPP is effective in the treatment of depression. Conclusion: STPP according to this review and treatment guidelines is defined as a first-line treatment for depression and personality disorders in adults.

Objetivo: Sistematizar la evidencia sobre efectividad de la Psicoterapia Psicodinámica a Corto Plazo (STPP), en el tratamiento de la depresión. Material y Métodos: Se crearon algoritmos de búsqueda y se hizo una búsqueda en los metadatos PubMed, TripdataBase y PlosOne. Resultados: Un total de 224 estudios fueron revisados y 10 cumplieron los criterios de inclusión. Seis de ellas se realizaron en Canadá (60%), luego en Reino Unido, Suiza, Alemania y Dinamarca con una publicación cada una (10%) respectivamente. Ocho estudios confirman que el STPP es eficaz en el tratamiento de la depresión. Conclusión: El STPP según esta revisión y guías de tratamientos es definido como tratamiento de primera línea para depresión y desordenes de personalidad en personas adultas.
