Resumen
Introduction: Chronic kidney disease not only causes serious consequences for the patient in all dimensions of their health and quality of life, but it also directly involves their immediate family environment. Renal replacement through hemodialysis is a therapeutic alternative, but it affects the lifestyle and quality of life of the patient and their family members, who play a fundamental role that can have a positive or negative impact on the patient. Objective: To determine how quality of life is related to family functionality in patients with chronic kidney failure undergoing hemodialysis treatment at the Francisco I Clinic in San Juan de Lurigancho, Lima – 2021. Methods: The study will be observational, descriptive, relational, and cross-sectional. An intentional sample of 90 patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis replacement therapy will be selected between October and December 2021. A survey using validated and reliable instruments will be applied to estimate health-related quality of life through the KDQOL-36 questionnaire, developed by the Kidney Disease Quality of Life Working Group. It is an abbreviated version of the KDQOL-SF, with 36 items, designed for use with dialysis patients, which helps reduce interview time and optimize acceptance. To estimate family functioning, the Family Apgar instrument will be used, a useful psychometric tool that shows how family members perceive the overall level of functioning or functionality of the family unit.
