Nutritional status and its relationship with the eating habits of the inmates of the Nursing School of the Wiener University, 2011

Abstract

This research aimed to establish the relationship between nutritional status and eating habits of the students from the Professional Nursing School at the Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener. A descriptive and correlational study was conducted. The sample consisted of 50 young adult nursing students. The technique used was the interview, and the instrument was a 34-question multiple-choice questionnaire on eating habits, used to determine the BMI of the participants. As a result, it was found that regarding nutritional status and eating habits, 30% (15) of the students had mostly regular eating habits, 18% (9) had poor eating habits, and 14% (7) had good eating habits. Among those with overweight and obesity, 9 had regular eating habits (18%), 7 had poor habits (14%), and 3 had good habits (6%). Regarding nutritional status, 62% (31) had a normal weight, 32% (16) were overweight, and only 6% (3) were obese. Regarding eating habits, 48% (24) were regular, 32% (16) were poor, and 20% (10) were good. In conclusion, no relationship was found between the nutritional status and eating habits of the nursing students.

El presente estudio de investigación tuvo como objetivo establecer la relación entre el estado nutricional y los hábitos alimenticios de los internos de la Escuela Académico Profesional de Enfermería de la Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener. Se realizó un estudio descriptivo y correlacional. La muestra estuvo conformada por 50 internos de Enfermería, adultos jóvenes. La técnica que se utilizó fue la entrevista, y el instrumento, un cuestionario con 34 preguntas de opción múltiple sobre los hábitos alimenticios, para determinar el IMC de los encuestados. Como resultado, se encontró que, en cuanto al estado nutricional y los hábitos alimenticios de los internos, el 30 % (15) de estos presentan hábitos mayormente regulares, el 18 % (9) con tendencia a malos y el 14 % (7), bueno hábitos. De entre aquellos con sobrepeso y obesidad, 9 tienen hábitos alimenticios regulares (18 %), 7 presentan malos hábitos (14 %) y 3 de ellos ostentan buenos hábitos (6 %). En relación al estado nutricional, el 62 % (31) tuvo un nivel normal, el 32 % (16), sobrepeso; y solo el 6 % (3) presentó obesidad. Con respecto a los hábitos alimenticios, en el 48 % (24) fueron regulares, en el 32 % (16) fueron malos, y en el 20 % (10) fueron buenos. En conclusión, se determinó que no existe relación entre el estado nutricional y los hábitos alimenticios de los internos de Enfermería.
