Attitudes toward sexuality and their relationship with sexual practices in adolescents of 4th and 5th grade of secondary school at I.E. 3087 'Carlos Cueto Fernandini'

The objective of this study was to determine attitudes towards sexuality and their relationship with sexual practices in adolescents from the 4th and 5th years of secondary school at the I.E. 3087 “Carlos Cueto Fernandini”. Material and Method: This was a quantitative, descriptive, cross-sectional, and correlational study with a simple non-experimental descriptive design. The sample consisted of 120 adolescents; 60 students from each grade (4th and 5th). Of these, 55% were female and 45% were male, with ages ranging from 14 to 17 years. The instrument used was a questionnaire, and the survey technique was applied. The attitude was evaluated in three categories: "favorable, indifferent, or unfavorable," while sexual practice was categorized as active or none. The results showed that attitudes towards sexuality were not significantly related to sexual practices (ρ=0.081). 56.67% of adolescents had a favorable attitude toward sexuality. In the dimensions of sexual identity, contraception, and sexual education, favorable attitudes were observed in 47.5%, 50%, and 59.17%, respectively. Only the dimension of "sexual activity" showed 65.83% of adolescents with an "indifferent" attitude. Regarding sexual practice, 72.5% of adolescents reported having active sexual practice. In the sexual games dimension, 69.17% of adolescents reported practicing them; 27.5% practiced masturbation, and 25.83% reported active sexual relations, with a predominance in males. Conclusion: Attitudes toward sexuality do not have a statistically significant relationship with the sexual practices of adolescents in the 4th and 5th years of secondary school, with the average age being 15 years. The main reason was attributed to curiosity.
Resumen
El presente estudio tuvo como objetivo determinar las actitudes sobre sexualidad y su relación con las prácticas sexuales en adolescentes del 4to y 5to de secundaria de la I.E. 3087 “Carlos Cueto Fernandini”. Material y método: El estudio fue de tipo cuantitativo, descriptivo, transversal y correlacional; de diseño descriptivo simple no experimental. La muestra estuvo constituida por 120 adolescentes; de 60 alumnos de cada grado de estudios (4to y 5to). 55% mujeres y 45% varones. Las edades oscilaron entre 14 y 17 años. El instrumento fue un cuestionario, la técnica usada la encuesta; la valoración de actitud consideró tres categorías: “favorable, de indiferencia o desfavorable” y la práctica sexual dos: activa/nula. Los resultados demostraron que la actitud hacia la sexualidad no se relacionó significativamente con la práctica sexual (ρ=0.081). El 56.67% de los adolescentes tuvieron una actitud favorable hacia la sexualidad; en las dimensiones identidad sexual, anticoncepción y educación sexual también tuvieron actitud favorable (47.5%, 50% y 59.17% respectivamente), solo la dimensión “actividad sexual” tuvo un 65.83% de adolescentes con actitud “indiferente”. En la variable práctica sexual, el 72.5% de los adolescentes refirieron tener una práctica sexual activa. En la dimensión juegos sexuales; el 69.17% de adolescentes refirieron practicarlos; sobre la masturbación, el 27.5% lo practicaron y sobre las relaciones sexuales el 25.83% refirieron practica activa a predominio del sexo masculino. Conclusión: La actitud sobre sexualidad no tiene relación estadísticamente significativa con las prácticas sexuales que tienen los adolescentes del 4to y 5to año de secundaria y la edad promedio fue 15 años. La razón principal fue atribuida a la curiosidad.
