Level of knowledge and management of peripheral venous catheterization by nursing professionals in the emergency department of a hospital of the Ministry of Health of Lima – 2024

Abstract

Introduction: The nursing professional working in a critical care unit, due to the nature of the emergency service, must have the appropriate skills and expertise when performing peripheral venous cannulation. This will help avoid complications, both local and systemic, which could further worsen the patient's clinical condition. Objective: Therefore, this research will be conducted to establish the relationship between the level of knowledge and the management of peripheral venous catheterization by nursing professionals in the emergency service of a Ministry of Health hospital in 2024. Methodology: The research will be applied, with a quantitative approach, non-experimental design, correlational level, and cross-sectional approach. The population will consist of 70 nurses from the emergency service. The survey technique will be applied, using a questionnaire to measure the first variable, and the observation technique with a checklist to measure the second variable. The data will be processed using the SPSS statistical software and will be presented in tables and figures. Then, Spearman’s Rho correlation coefficient will be applied to measure the relationship between the variables and proceed with hypothesis testing.

Introducción: El profesional de enfermería que labora en una unidad critica, por tratarse de un servicio de emergencia, debe contar con las habilidades y destrezas idóneas al momento de canalizar una vía periférica y, de esa manera, evitará generar complicaciones tanto locales como sistémicas las cuales podrían complicar a un más el cuadro clínico del paciente. Objetivo: Es por ello que se realizará esta investigación con la finalidad de establecer la relación entre el nivel de conocimiento y el manejo de cateterismo venoso periférico por profesionales de enfermería del servicio de emergencia en un hospital del Ministerio de Salud en el año 2024. Metodología: El tipo de investigación será aplicada, con enfoque cuantitativo, diseño no experimental, nivel Correlacional y de corte transversal. La población estará conformada por 70 enfermeros del servicio de emergencia. Se aplicará la técnica de la encuesta y el instrumento del cuestionario para medir la primera variable y la técnica de observación y como instrumento la lista de cotejo para medir la segunda variable. Los datos serán procesados en el programa estadístico de SPSS y se expresarán en tablas y figuras. Luego se aplicará el coeficiente de correlación Rho de Spearman para medir la relación entre las variables y proceder a la comprobación de las hipótesis.
