Effectiveness of nursing interventions in the management of the Manchester triage system to improve patient flow in the emergency service

Abstract

Objective: Systematize the evidence on the effectiveness of nursing interventions in the management of the Manchester triage system to improve the flow of patient care in the emergency service. Material and Methods: The Systemic Review of international research articles is carried out, which have been obtained by searching the databases: Epistemonikos, PubMed, Elsevier, Scielo, Science Direct, and Open Access, the search for the articles using the descriptors DECS and MESH for searching in Spanish and English respectively. Results: It is observed that when evaluating the articles, the result was that 60% (6/10) of the articles reviewed correspond to Brazil, 10% (1/10) correspond to Switzerland, 10% (1/10 ) corresponds to Sweden, 10% (1/10) corresponds to England and 10% (1/10) corresponds to Costa Rica. Conclusions: It is found that 8 out of 10 of the evidence studied are effective for nursing interventions in the management of the Manchester triage system in improving the flow of patient care in the emergency service. While 2 out of 10 of the evidence indicates that interventions need to carry out complementary studies to achieve effectiveness in their application.

Objetivo: Sistematizar la evidencia sobre la eficacia de las intervenciones de enfermería en el manejo del sistema de triaje manchester para mejorar el flujo de atención de pacientes en el servicio de emergencia. Material y Métodos: Se efectúa la Revisión Sistémica de artículos de investigación internacionales, que han sido obtenidos mediante la búsqueda en base de datos: Epistemonikos, PubMed, Elsevier, Scielo, Science Direct, y Open Acces, la búsqueda de los artículos utilizando los descriptores DECS y MESH para la búsqueda en español e inglés respectivamente. Resultados: Se observa que al efectuar la evaluación de los artículos se obtuvo como resultado que el 60% (6/10) de los artículos revisados corresponden a Brasil, 10% (1/10) corresponde a Suiza, 10% (1/10) corresponde a Suecia, 10% (1/10) corresponde a Inglaterra y 10% (1/10) corresponde a Costa Rica. Conclusiones: Se encuentra que 8 de 10 de las evidencias estudiadas son eficaces para las intervenciones de enfermería en el manejo del sistema de triaje manchester en la mejora del flujo de atención de pacientes en el servicio de emergencia. Mientras que 2 de 10 de las evidencias indican que las intervenciones necesitan realizar estudios complementarios para alcanzar la eficacia en su aplicación.
