Total Error of Accu-Chek Glucometers: "ACTIVE" and "PERFORMANCE" for Three Measurement Levels in Plasma Samples from Patients at the Central Military Hospital, Lima, September 2017

Abstract

Diabetes is one of the most common endocrinopathies in humans and can be fatal. Therefore, the development of POC (Point of Care) devices, known as glucometers, is one of the most significant technological advances in diabetes care, and has become an extensively used procedure by patients. It is essential to determine analytical errors (systematic and random), which together make up the Total Error (TE) to ensure and maintain quality. The objective was to establish the Total Error of Accu-check glucometers (Active and Performance) at three measurement levels in plasma samples from patients at the Central Military Hospital. This is an observational, non-interventional, quantitative, clinical-descriptive, prospective, and cross-sectional study. The conclusion was that the Accu-check Performance glucometer had the lowest TE at its three measurement levels (level I: 11.99%, level II: 7.25%, and level III: 8.02%) compared to Accu-check Active (level I: 11.61%, level II: 12.4%, and level III: 14.10%), both analyzing the same sample under similar working conditions with reference to the CMD 800i clinical chemistry analyzer.

La Diabetes es una de las endocrinopatías más frecuentes en los seres humanos y que puede llegar a ser mortal. Por ello el desarrollo de los POC (Point Of Care), conocidos como glucómetros es unos de los avances más significativos en tecnología dirigida a la diabetes y por consecuencia se ha convertido en un procedimiento extensamente utilizados por el paciente. Por ello es imprescindible realizar una determinación de los errores analíticos (sistemático y aleatorio), que en suma hacen el Error Total (ET) con el fin de garantizar y preservar su calidad. El objetivo fue establecer el Error Total de los glucómetros Accu-check (Active y Performance) para tres niveles de medición en muestras de plasma de pacientes del Hospital Militar Central. Es un estudio sin intervención – observacional, de tipo cuantitativo, con orientación clínica- descriptiva, prospectiva y transversal. Se concluye que el glucómetro Accu-check Performance tuvo menor grado de ET para sus tres niveles de medición (nivel I: 11.99%, nivel II: 7.25% y nivel III: 8.02%) en comparación de Accu-check Active (nivel I: 11.61%, nivel II: 12.4% y nivel III: 14.10%) ambos analizando la misma muestra, en condiciones de trabajo similares y teniendo como referencia al analizador de química clínica CMD 800i.
