Depression and quality of life in the elderly in a community mental health center

Abstract

The purpose of this research work is: Determine the relationship between depression and quality of life in the elderly of a Community Mental Health Center. The methodology: hypothetical deductive method, non experimental design, quantitive focus, descriptive type, applied, correlational, of transversal cut, the sample will consist of 80 older adults. The instruments that will be used for the present research will be: the Yesavage Geriatric Depression Scale, which will measure depression in older adults and the WHOQoL-BREF quality of life questionnaire, to measure the level of quality of life, which are already validated; both instruments have a high level of reliability (0.91 and 0.73 in the Cronbach alpha) statistics, for the gathering of the information there will be approximately 30 minutes for each participant, graphs and tables will be used for the analysis and interpretation. Likewise, for the contrast of the hypothesis, the Spearman Test will be used as a statistical estimate, with a reliability level of 95%, an error of 5%, which will be reflected in the contingency table of both variables.

Objetivo: Determinar la relación entre la depresión y la calidad de vida del adulto mayor en un Centro de Salud Mental Comunitario. La metodología: método hipotético deductivo, diseño no experimental de corte transversal, de enfoque cuantitativo, de tipo descriptivo, aplicada, correlacional, la muestra estará compuesta de 80 adultos mayores. Los instrumentos que se emplearán en el presente trabajo investigativo serán: la escala de depresión Geriátrica de Yesavage, que medirá la depresión en los adultos mayores y el cuestionario de calidad de vida WHOQoL-BREF, para medir la calidad de vida, los cuales ya están validados; ambos instrumentos tienen un alto nivel de confiabilidad (0.91 y 0.73 en el alfa de Cronbach) estadística, para la recolección de la información se tendrá una duración aproximada de 30 minutos para cada participante, para el análisis e interpretación se harán uso de tablas, gráficos. Asimismo, para la contrastación de la hipótesis, se utilizará como estimación estadística la Prueba de Spearman, con un nivel de confianza del 95%, un error del 5%, el cual será plasmado en la tabla de contingencia de ambas variables.
