Estudio de caso: experiencias y motivaciones de docentes sobre la creación de cursos y carreras en ciencias y tecnología espaciales en universidades latinoamericanas

Abstract

El presente trabajo se realizó con el objetivo de obtener una visión del estado de la educación superior orientada al sector espacial en Latinoamérica a través de entrevistas a docentes que habían propuesto o participado en la creación de cursos y carreras en el sector espacial. Se realizó un estudio de caso mediante entrevistas semi estructuradas a cinco docentes de Perú, Costa Rica, Chile y México. Los resultados mostraron que las principales motivaciones de los docentes incluyen el apoyo a los estudiantes, y el deseo por impulsar la industria espacial nacional. Las instituciones de educación superior se mostraron abiertas a apoyar estos proyectos, y se observó el rol importante de la colaboración interinstitucional facilitando el proceso. Es estudio nos permitió concluir que experiencia de los docentes ha sido positiva, encontrando más facilidades que retos para la creación de carreras y cursos en el sector espacial. Hubo una mayor facilidad en países donde la industria espacial ya ha tenido un desarrollo, sin embargo, este no fue el caso de Perú, el cual necesitaría de un proceso gradual para poder fundamentar la creación de carreras en el sector espacial.

The present study was performed with the objective to gain insight on the state of superior education oriented to the space sector in Latin America by interviewing teachers who have proposed and participated in the creation of courses and undergraduate programs.: A case study was carried out by performing semi-structured interviews to five teachers from Peru, Costa Rica, Chile and Mexico. The results showed that the principal motivations of these educators were to support students, and the desire to impulse the national space industry. Superior education institutions have shown support to these projects and the important role of interinstitutional cooperation was observed to facilitate the process. From this research we can conclude that the overall experience of the interviewed teachers was positive. They found more easiness than challenges in the creation of courses and undergraduate programs in the space sector. There was more easiness in countries where the space industry has had previous development. Nevertheless, this was not the case for Peru, which might need to follow a gradual process to justify the creation of undergraduate programs in the space sector.
