Evaluation of the location of the mandibular lingula and mandibular foramen with respect to the lower occlusal plane and the anterior border of the ramus of the mandible during the period 2017-2021

Abstract

Materials and Methods: In this observational, analytical, cross-sectional study, 274 digital panoramic radiographs were analyzed, belonging to patients aged 6 to 45 years. A statistical analysis was conducted, with a 95% confidence level (significance level 0.05). Results: In the study, 174 patients were female. The mean distance of the LM (Lower Molar) to the PO (Occlusal Plane) ranged from 4.81 mm to 12.01 mm, while the distance of the FM (Mental Foramen) to the PO ranged from 0.92 mm to 7.91 mm. The mean distance of the LM to the BA (Bony Arch) ranged from 12.65 mm to 15.46 mm, and the distance of the FM to the BA ranged from 13.96 mm to 17.28 mm. A significant difference (p<0.05) was found in all distances according to age and between the LM-BA and FM-BA distances according to sex. Conclusions: The anesthesia technique for blocking the inferior alveolar nerve should be applied between the lower occlusal plane level, not exceeding 12.01 mm and 7.91 mm (LM and FM respectively), with a needle insertion depth ranging between 12.65 mm - 15.46 mm and 13.96 mm - 17.28 mm (LM and FM respectively).

Materiales y métodos: En este estudio observacional, analítico, transversal, se trabajó con 274 radiografías panorámicas digitales, perteneciente a pacientes que oscilan entre las edades de 6 a 45 años. Se llevó a cabo un análisis estadístico. Se trabajó con un nivel de confiabilidad del 95% (nivel de significancia 0.05). Resultados: En el estudio, 174 pacientes fueron del sexo femenino. La distancia media de la LM respecto al PO varía entre 4.81 mm y 12.01 mm, la distancia del FM respecto al PO varía entre 0.92 mm y 7.91 mm. La distancia media de la LM respecto al BA varía entre 12.65 mm y 15.46 mm y la distancia del FM respecto al BA varía entre 13.96 mm y 17.28 mm. Existe diferencia significativa (p<0.05) entre todas las distancias según la edad y entre las distancias LM-BA y FM-BA según el sexo. Conclusiones: La técnica de anestesia para bloqueo del nervio alveolar inferior debe ser aplicada entre el nivel del plano oclusal inferior y no superar los 12.01 mm y 7.91 mm (LM y FM respectivamente), con una profundidad de inserción de la aguja que varía entre 12.65 mm -15.46 mm y 13.96 mm - 17.28 mm (LM y FM respectivamente).
