Influence of Covid-19 on the academic training of dental students at the Norbert Wiener Private University 2022

Resumen
The primary objective of this study was to determine the influence of Covid-19 on the academic formation of dental students at the Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener in 2022. This study was quantitative, aimed at confirming or refuting hypotheses, and was developed with the help of the dental student community at the university. The sample consisted of 150 dental students who answered a questionnaire composed of 7 sections evaluating how Covid-19 affected their academic formation, with a focus on the cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains being the most important aspects to investigate. The study was conducted virtually using the Google Forms platform. Once the questionnaires were successfully completed, the data was initially collected in Microsoft Excel and then processed in SPSS version 25. The results were presented in tables and diagrams for proper interpretation. The results initially indicated that the participants' ages ranged from 20 to 29 years, with a predominance of female students. Also, most students were in their third academic year when the pandemic started, with 94.7% of the respondents belonging to the tenth semester at the time the sample was collected. Regarding the domains, the cognitive domain was rated good, the affective domain was rated moderate, and the psychomotor domain was the most affected. In conclusion, it was determined that Covid-19 influenced the academic instruction of dental students, establishing a precedent in the usual development of university life
Resumen
Este estudio tuvo como primordial objetivo determinar la influencia del Covid-19 en la formación académica de los alumnos de odontología de la Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener 2022. Este estudio fue cuantitativo, con la consigna de afirmar o refutar las hipótesis y se desarrolló con ayuda de la comunidad odontológica estudiantil de la universidad. La muestra estuvo compuesta de 150 alumnos de odontología los cuales respondieron un cuestionario constituido por 7 bloques que evaluaron de qué manera el Covid-19 afecto su formación académica siendo el dominio cognitivo, afectivo y psicomotor las cualidades más importantes a investigar y ejecutándolo de manera virtual utilizando la plataforma Google Forms. Cuando los cuestionarios fueron completados exitosamente, los datos fueron recolectados de manera inicial en el software Microsoft Excel para luego procesarse en el software SPSS versión 25 y cuyos resultados fueron expresados en las tablas y esquemas para una correcta interpretación. Los resultados indicaron en principio que la edad de los participantes se comprende entre los 20 a 29 años predominando elsexo femenino. También, la mayoría de estudiantes estaban en el tercer año académico cuando empezó la pandemia siendo que los encuestados pertenecen al décimo ciclo en un 94.7% almomento de recolectar la muestra. En cuanto a los dominios, el dominio cognitivo fue bueno, el afectivo fue regular en consecuencia con los datos hallados y el psicomotor tuvo la mayor perjudicado. Por todo ello, se concluyó que el Covid-19 influyo en la instrucción académica de los alumnos de odontología instaurando un precedente en el desarrollo habitual de la vida universitaria.
