Effect of omega 3 in the treatment and evolution of the patient with covid-19

Abstract

COVID-19 is a disease that is now considered a pandemic caused by the recent type of coronavirus called SARS-CoV-2 and represents a major threat to medicine in all countries. This virus can be transmitted between people through respiratory droplets, fomites and contact. Complications from COVID-19 represent 10-15% of all cases, and can lead to the person being admitted to the ICU and are often fatal. The mortality rate for COVID-19 is 2% and the hospital mortality rate is approximately 10%. Although corticosteroids, antiviral therapy and mechanical respiratory support have been used for treatment, there is still no specialized treatment for COVID-19 to date. The present research aimed to discover whether Omega-3 supplementation in the diet can reinforce the treatment and evolution of the population with COVID-19. The critical commentary led to the conclusion that omega-3 supplementation should be considered as a treatment in cases of COVID-19, since everything indicates that its action is extremely beneficial; however, more research is needed to definitively determine the efficacy of omega-3 against COVID-19.

Este virus puede transmitirse entre las personas por medio de gotas respiratorias, fómites y por contacto. Las complicaciones del COVID-19, representan el 10-15% de todos los casos, y puede derivar a la persona al área de UCI y con frecuencia es letal. la tasa de mortalidad por COVID-19 abarca el 2% y la tasa de mortalidad hospitalaria es de un aproximado del 10%. Aunque se ha empleado para el tratamiento corticosteroides, terapia antiviral y el soporte respiratorio mecánico, todavía no existe hasta la fecha un tratamiento especializado contra el COVID-19. la presente investigación tuvo como objetivo descubrir si la suplementación con Omega – 3 en la dieta puede reforzar el tratamiento y evolución de la población con COVID-19. El comentario crítico permitió concluir que la suplementación con omega-3 debe considerarse como tratamiento en casos de COVID-19, ya que todo da indicio a que su acción es sumamente beneficiosa; sin embargo, se necesita más investigaciones para finiquitar con toda certeza la eficacia del omega-3 contra el COVID-19."
