Relationship between the nurse's level of knowledge and practice on care and maintenance of the peripherally inserted central catheter in premature infants in the neonatal intensive care unit of a hospital in the Norte Chico region during the year 2021

Abstract

The PICC peripheral access central venous catheterization technique has been shown to be an effective and safe procedure that avoids unnecessary punctures and immobilization and can be performed by nursing staff in neonatal patients. The objective of this research was to determine the relationship between the level of knowledge and practice of the nurse on the care and maintenance of the peripherally inserted central catheter in premature neonates in the neonatal intensive care unit of a Hospital del Norte Chico during the year 2021. The research was developed with a quantitative approach, basic type and correlational level, non-experimental cross-sectional design, with a census sample of 35 NICU nurses, to whom the Knowledge Level questionnaire was administered. with a reliability of 0.854, with 25 questions and a Nursing Practice Checklist with a reliability of 0.805 and 26 questions. The data will be processed in the SPSS 25 software, which will be used to determine the levels of each of the variables and also establish the correlation through the Pearson statistician. Finally, the results, discussion, conclusion and recommendations of the research will be announced, determining the level of knowledge and practice of the nurse on the care and maintenance of the peripherally inserted central catheter in premature neonates in the neonatal intensive care unit of a Hospital del Norte Chico during the year 2021

La técnica de cateterización venosa central de acceso periférico PICC, ha mostrado ser un procedimiento eficaz y seguro, que evita punciones innecesarias e inmovilizaciones y puede ser realizado por personal de enfermería en pacientes neonatos. La presente investigación tuvo como objetivo determinar la relación entre el nivel de conocimiento y práctica de la enfermera sobre el cuidado y mantenimiento del catéter central de inserción periférica en neonatos prematuros de la unidad de cuidados intensivos neonatal de un Hospital del Norte Chico durante el año 2021. La investigación se desarrolló con un enfoque cuantitativo, de tipo básico y nivel correlacional, diseño no experimental de corte transversal, con una muestra censal de 35 enfermeras de UCIN, a quienes se les suministró el cuestionario de Nivel de Conocimiento con una confiabilidad de 0,854, con 25 preguntas y una Lista de Cotejo de Práctica de la Enfermera con una confiabilidad de 0,805 y 26 preguntas. Los datos serán procesados en el software SPSS 25, el cual se utilizará para determinar los niveles de cada una de las variables y así mismo establecer la correlación a través del estadígrafo de Pearson. Finalmente se darán a conocer los resultados, la discusión, conclusión y recomendaciones de la investigación determinando el nivel de conocimiento y práctica de la enfermera sobre el cuidado y mantenimiento del catéter central de inserción periférica en neonatos prematuros de la unidad de cuidados intensivos neonatal de un Hospital del Norte Chico durante el año 2021
