Association between the level of knowledge and practice on self-care of older adults in the community from sector 6, group 6, from the district of Villa El Salvador - 2022

Abstract

The present investigation had as objective to determine the association between the Level of Knowledge and Practice on Self-care that the Elderly Adult of the Community of Sector 6 Group 6 has, of the District of Villa El Salvador-2022. Study that was of the applied type, with a descriptive correlational cross-sectional design with a quantitative approach, in which the hypothetical and deductive method was applied. The population consisted of 108 older adults from the Community of Sector 6 Group 6, of the District of Villa El Salvador. The instruments applied were for the variable level of knowledge about self-care of the elderly, a questionnaire was used. For the self-care practice variable, the instrument "CYPAC TEST -AM. Results: according to the Pearson correlation coefficient, 0.194 was obtained, which indicates a low positive correlation between both variables analyzed, which is significant. Of the population, 88.9% presented a medium level of knowledge and a partially adequate self-care practice with 68%, followed by high knowledge with 10.2% and an inadequate self-care practice with 24.1%, 9% presented a level of knowledge low and a completely adequate practice with a percentage of 7.4%. Conclusions: According to the results obtained, it is concluded that there is a low positive association between the level of knowledge and the practice of self-care of the elderly in the Community of Sector 6 Group 6, of the District of Villa El Salvador.

La presente investigación tuvo como objetivo determinar la asociación entre el Nivel de Conocimiento y Práctica sobre el Autocuidado que tiene el Adulto Mayor de la Comunidad del Sector 6 Grupo 6, del Distrito de Villa El Salvador-2022. Estudio que fue de tipo aplicada, de diseño descriptivo correlacional de corte transversal de enfoque cuantitativo, en el cual, se aplicó el método hipotético y deductivo. La población estuvo constituida por 108 adultos mayores. Los instrumentos aplicados fueron para la variable nivel de conocimiento, se utilizó un cuestionario, Para la variable de práctica sobre el autocuidado, se utilizó el instrumento “TEST DE CYPAC –AM. Resultados: según el coeficiente de correlación de Pearson, se obtuvo 0.194 que señala una correlación positiva baja entre ambas variables analizadas, lo cual es significativo. De la población el 88.9% presento un nivel de conocimiento medio y una práctica sobre el autocuidado parcialmente adecuado con un 68%, seguido de conocimiento alto con 10.2% y una práctica sobre el autocuidado inadecuado con un 24.1%, el 9 % presenta un nivel de conocimiento bajo y una práctica totalmente adecuado con un porcentaje 7.4%.
