Relationship between the space of the lower third molar and the different skeletal patterns in patients aged 12 to 17 years who attend the dental center“ scientific dental, Lima 2017-2019.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to determine the relationship between the space for the lower third molar and different skeletal patterns in patients aged 12 to 17 years who attended the Dental Científica center, Lima, 2017-2019. The study was observational, descriptive, cross-sectional, and retrospective. The study population consisted of 178 cephalometric and 178 panoramic radiographs, analyzed using the observation technique. Skeletal classes were determined by measuring the ANB angle (Steiner), and the space for the lower third molar was measured in millimeters using the Nemoceph version 2.0 software in Spanish. Results: No significant relationship was found between the space for the lower third molar and skeletal classes (p=0.94). The most frequent skeletal class was class II (47.2%), followed by class I (44.4%). Regarding the space for the lower third molar (ERTM), the general average was 8.72±4.22 mm for the right side and 9.86±4.26 mm for the left side. The ERTM values by age showed higher averages in 17-year-old patients, with 9.91±3.74 mm for the right side and 11.79±3.84 mm for the left side. Conclusion: There is no significant relationship between the space for the lower third molar and skeletal patterns.

El propósito de este trabajo de investigación fue determinar la relación entre el espacio del tercer molar inferior y los diferentes patrones esqueléticos en pacientes de 12 a 17 años que acuden al centro odontológico Dental Científica, Lima 2017-2019. El estudio fue de tipo observacional, nivel descriptivo, transversal y retrospectivo. La población de estudio fueron 178 radiografías cefalométricas y 178 radiografías panorámicas, las cuales fueron analizadas mediante la técnica de la observación, en donde se analizó las clases esqueletales mediante la medición del ángulo ANB Steiner y el espacio para la tercera molar inferior en milímetros con la ayuda del programa Nemoceph versión 2.0 en español. Se encontró que no existe relación significativa del espacio del tercer molar inferior entre clases esqueletales (p=0.94). La clase esqueletal más frecuente fue la clase II con un 47.2%, seguido de la clase I con 44.4%. Con respecto al espacio del tercer molar inferior (ERTM) se obtuvo un promedio general de 8.72±4.22 mm para el lado derecho y de 9.86±4.26 para el izquierdo. Los valores de ERTM distribuido por edad mostraron valores mas altos en el grupo de pacientes de 17 años con promedio de 9.91±3.74 para el lado derecho y de 11.79±3.84 en el lado izquierdo también para la misma edad. Se concluye que no existe relación significativa entre el espacio para la tercera molar inferior y los patrones esqueletales.
