Level of knowledge and nursing practice on the prevention of infections associated with the central venous catheter in the intensive care unit of a public hospital in Ate Vitarte, 2022

Abstract

Objective: To identify the association between the level of knowledge and the practices of nurses regarding preventive measures for infections related to central venous catheters in the Intensive Care Unit.

Methodology: The research method will follow the hypothetical-deductive approach. The type of research to be conducted is applied, with a quantitative focus. The design will be non-experimental, observational, and correlational, with a cross-sectional scope.

Population and Sample: The study will include a population of 85 nurses, selected through convenience sampling by the researcher using a non-probabilistic approach.

Techniques and Instruments: The techniques to be used are surveys and observations. The instruments to be administered are the Central Venous Catheter Care Knowledge Questionnaire and the Central Venous Catheter Care Practice Checklist, both of which have been modified and adapted to our context. These instruments have demonstrated reliability through the Kuder-Richardson test, with reliability coefficients of 0.79 and 0.88, respectively.

Data Processing and Analysis: The collected information will be managed in an Excel spreadsheet for proper control and classification. The type of relationship between the variables evaluated in the study will be established using non-parametric inferential statistics, specifically through the Chi-Square test.

La presente investigación permitirá aportar nuevos enfoques al personal de enfermería respecto del nivel de conocimiento y la práctica de enfermería sobre la prevención de infecciones asociadas al catéter venoso central en la Unidad Terapia Intensiva, Hospital de Emergencia Ate Vitarte y de esta manera rediscutir las teorías y los conceptos sobre los cuidados en base a la teoría enfermería.

Se adopta el tipo de diseño correlacional, que involucra la relación de las variables nivel de conocimiento y la práctica de enfermería sobre la prevención de infecciones asociadas al catéter venoso central en la Unidad Terapia Intensiva, porque permitirá enriquecer la línea de investigación de la prevención de infecciones en pacientes con CVC, aplicando para tal aspecto instrumentos validados y reconocidos en el ámbito internacional, como en el contexto nacional.

La presente investigación permitirá determinar las necesidades del personal de enfermería cuyos resultados podrán sistematizarse en una propuesta que permita potenciar la prevención de infecciones asociadas al catéter venoso central en la Unidad Terapia Intensiva. Generando los resultados en esta investigación evidencia sobre las necesidades del personal de enfermería en coyunturas como la actual, con un enfoque comprensivo, para que los profesionales de salud seamos sensibles sobre su realidad.
