Attitude towards promoting organ donation and transplantation among nursing professionals in intensive care units at Guillermo Almenara Irigoyen National Hospital, Lima – 2019

Abstract

Methods: Quantitative, descriptive and transversal approach. The population was 154 nurses who met the inclusion criteria. The technique used was the interview and the instrument used was a questionnaire. Results: The attitude towards organ donation and transplantation in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) has the highest promotion by 52%, and the lowest is 48%. The same for the dimensions: PRL (attitudes towards the defense of the organ donor at a political and research level) with 54%, APS (attitudes towards actively and personally safeguarding the will and wishes of the potential organ donor) with 53%, SPPA (attitude towards safeguarding the will and wishes of the potential donor through a professional approach) with 63%, and SWR (attitudes towards safeguarding the will and wishes of patients) with 76%, consecutively, maintaining greater promotion for nursing. With respect to the first SHL dimension (attitude of defense of the organ donor at the structural Hospital level), a greater proportion of nurses with lower promotion is evident with 57%. Conclusions: The Attitude of Promotion of Organ Donation and Transplantation by the Professional Care Nurse of the Intensive Care Units is of greater promotion by ATODAS (Attitude of the nurse towards the promotion of organ donors).

Métodos: Enfoque cuantitativo, de tipo descriptivo y transversal. La población fue de 154 enfermeros que cumplieron con los criterios de inclusión. La técnica utilizada fue la entrevista y el instrumento utilizado, un cuestionario. Resultados: La actitud frente a la donación y trasplante de órganos en la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos (UCI) tiene mayor promoción por 52%, y la menor es de 48%. Lo mismo para las dimensiones: PRL (actitudes hacia la defensa del donante de órganos a nivel político y de investigación) con 54%, APS (actitudes hacia la salvaguardia activa y personalmente la voluntad y deseos del potencial donador de órganos) con 53%, SPPA (actitud hacia la salvaguardia de la voluntad y los deseos del donante potencial por un enfoque profesional) con 63%, y SWR (actitudes hacia la salvaguardia de la voluntad y los deseos de los pacientes) con 76%, consecutivamente, que conservan mayor promoción por enfermería. Con respecto a la primera dimensión SHL (actitud de defensa del donante de órgano a nivel Hospitalario estructural), se evidencia mayor proporción de las enfermeras con menor promoción con 57%. Conclusiones: La Actitud de Promoción de Donación y Trasplante de Órganos por parte de la Enfermera Profesional Asistencial de las Unidades de Cuidados Intensivos es de mayor promoción por ATODAS (Actitud del enfermero frente a la promoción de los donantes de órganos).
