Work stress and the professional performance of nurses in the emergency service of a national hospital, 2023

Abstract

Currently, the professional performance and well-being of health personnel is affected daily by work stress, generating many complications; This leads to consequences that affect the economy, life and the family, causing very costly expenses and exponentially increasing the morbidity and mortality rate. For this reason, it is important to raise awareness of control measures to reduce work-related stress and improve quality of life in order to avoid consequences on the professional performance of health personnel. The main objective of this research is to determine the relationship between work-related stress and the professional performance of nurses in the emergency department; Considering a study with a quantitative approach, with a non-experimental design, with a cross-sectional correlational descriptive level. The sample is made up of 146 nursing professionals, with whom the survey technique and its instrument, the Likert scale questionnaire for each variable, were used, which went through a respective process of validation and reliability, giving the global reliability of 0.877 in the variable of work stress and giving the global reliability of 0.941 in the variable of professional performance. To perform the statistical analysis, the statistical platforms Excel and SPSS version 29.0 will be used, in turn, in order to verify the objectives of the study, the Rho Spearman correlation will be used.

Actualmente el todo el mundo, el desempeño profesional y el bienestar del personal de salud es afectado a diario por el estrés laboral, generando muchas complicaciones; ello conlleva a consecuencias que afectan la economía, la vida y a la familia, originando gastos muy costosos y aumentando exponencialmente la tasa de morbimortalidad. Es por ello importante dar a conocer las medidas de control para reducir el estrés laboral y mejorar la calidad de vida a fin de evitar consecuencias en el desempeño profesional del personal de salud. La presente investigación tiene como objetivo principal: determinar la relación entre el estrés laboral y el desempeño profesional de los enfermeros en el servicio de emergencia; considerando un estudio con enfoque cuantitativo, con diseño no experimental, de nivel descriptivo correlacional transversal. La muestra está conformada por 146 profesionales de enfermería, con quienes se usó la técnica de la encuesta y su instrumento que es el cuestionario tipo escala de Likert para cada variable, las cuales pasaron por un proceso respectivo de validación y confiabilidad, dando la confiabilidad global de 0.877 en la variable de estrés laboral y dando la confiabilidad global de 0.941 en la variable de desempeño profesional. Para realizar el análisis estadístico se utilizará las plataformas estadísticas Excel y SPSS versión 29.0, a su vez, con el fin de comprobar los objetivos del estudio se usará la correlación de Rho Spearman.
