Coping strategy and quality of life in cancer patients Hospital Militar Central, Lima, 2022

Abstract

Cancer is an uncontrolled process of growth and spread of cells that can occur virtually anywhere in the body. It often invades surrounding tissue and can lead to metastasis in distant parts of the body. Active coping styles in the face of cancer are associated with better adjustment to the disease, therapeutic adherence, and quality of life, increasing the patient's sense of self-efficacy and personal control. Objective: To determine the relationship between coping strategies and quality of life in oncology patients at the Central Military Hospital in Lima, 2022. Methods: This is an applied, quantitative, correlational, and cross-sectional study. The census sample will consist of 50 oncology patients. A survey will be used to apply two Likert scale questionnaires adapted by Acosta for the target population; these have been validated and are reliable for measuring the variables in question. The collected data will be processed using SPSS 25, and hypotheses will be tested using the Spearman correlation coefficient statistical test due to the qualitative nature of the variables.

El cáncer es un proceso de crecimiento y diseminación incontrolado de células que puede aparecer prácticamente en cualquier lugar del cuerpo, suele invadir el tejido circundante y puede provocar metástasis en puntos distantes del organismo. Los estilos de afrontamiento activos ante el cáncer se asocian con un mejor ajuste a la enfermedad, adherencia terapéutica y calidad de vida, incrementando el sentimiento de autoeficacia y control personal del paciente. Objetivo: Determinar la relación entre las estrategias de afrontamiento y calidad de vida en pacientes oncológicos del Hospital Militar Central Lima 2022. Métodos: estudio de tipo aplicado, cuantitativo, correlacional y transversal. La muestra censal estará constituida por 50 pacientes oncológicos. Se usará la encuesta para aplicar dos cuestionarios en escala de tipo Likert adaptados por acosta para la población objetivo, están validados y son confiables para medir las variables en cuestión. Los datos recolectados serán procesados en SPSS 25 y las hipótesis se probarán usando la prueba estadística del coeficiente de correlación de Spearman dado la naturaleza cualitativa de las variables.
