Knowledge about acute diarrheal diseases and its relationship with prevention practices in mothers of children under 5 years of age at Hospital II Vitarte EsSalud, 2023

Abstract

Objective: “to determine how the level of knowledge about acute diarrheal diseases is related to prevention practices in mothers of children under 5 years of age at Hospital II Vitarte ESSALUD, 2023.” Material and Method: it had a quantitative, descriptive approach, the population was 151 mothers of children under 5 years of age, 2 instruments were used, for the level of knowledge variable, a questionnaire developed and validated by Flores was used. K, Montenegro. Y, Pacheco.S and modified by Sangaray Ayac Maraia Sandra in her research study titled “knowledge of mothers of children under 5 years of age about acute diarrheal diseases and the practice of prevention measures, agocucho health post, Cajamarca – 2021”, with validation through 11 expert judgments and a reliability with the pilot test of 10% of the sample. The results: for level of knowledge, 84.8% bad knowledge, 13.9% regular and 1.3% good. For the variable prevention practices of acute diarrheal diseases, 75.5% of mothers have unhealthy practices and 24.5% healthy ones. In relation to both, 84.8% of mothers have bad knowledge and 75.5% practice unhealthy practices. Conclusions: With a Spearman coefficient of -0.674 and a calculated significance value of 0.000 < 0.05, the relationship between the variables is direct and positive. This means that when the level of knowledge about acute diarrheal diseases increases, prevention practices improve. This is corroborated by the fact that the significance value is statistically significant.

Objetivo: fue determinar cómo el nivel de conocimiento sobre enfermedades diarreicas agudas se relaciona con las prácticas de prevención en madres de niños menores de 5 años del Hospital II Vitarte ESSALUD, 2023”. Material y Método: tuvo un enfoque cuantitativo, de tipo descriptivo, la población fue de 151 madres de niños menores de 5 años, se utilizó 2 instrumentos, para la variable nivel de conocimiento, se utilizó un cuestionario elaborado y validado por Flores. K, Montenegro. Y, Pacheco.S y modificado por Sangaray Ayac Maraia Sandra en su estudio de investigación titulado “conocimiento de las madres de niños menores de 5 años sobre enfermedades diarreicas agudas y la práctica de medidas de prevención, puesto de salud agocucho, Cajamarca – 2021”, con una validación a través de 11 juicios de expertos y una confiabilidad con la prueba piloto del 10% de muestra. Los resultados: para nivel de conocimiento, el 84.8% conocimiento malo, el 13.9% reglar y 1.3% bueno. Para la variable prácticas de prevención de las enfermedades diarreicas agudas, el 75,5% de las madres tienen practicas no saludables y el 24,5% saludables. En relación con ambas, el 84,8% de las madres tienen conocimiento malo y el 75,5% practicas no saludables. Conclusiones: Con un coeficiente de Spearman de -0,674 y un valor de significación calculado de 0,000 < 0,05, la relación entre las variables es directa y positiva. Esto significa que cuando aumenta el nivel de conocimientos sobre las enfermedades diarreicas agudas, mejoran las prácticas de prevención. Esto se ve corroborado por el hecho de que el valor de significación es estadísticamente significativo.
