Knowledge about acute respiratory infections and preventive attitudes in mothers of children under 5 years of age who are treated in the pediatric office of a public hospital in Lima Cercado, 2024

Abstract

Introduction: ARI cases are more severe, with a higher number of hospitalizations and complications. This increase in the demand for medical care is saturating health services, especially in developing countries. Hence the need to value the participation of mothers in prevention actions. Objective: To determine how knowledge about acute respiratory infections is related to preventive attitudes in mothers of children under 5 years of age seen in the pediatric clinic. Methodology: We will work with an applied methodology, under a quantitative approach, non-experimental cross-sectional design, with the contribution of information from 109 mothers of children under 5 years of age through the use of two autochthonous, validated and reliable questionnaires. After its application, data will be collected, codified and registered in a data matrix which will receive a statistical treatment through the SPSS 26.0 program, with a descriptive and inferential technique, the latter through Spearman's Rho, which is a test that will allow corroborating the validity and veracity of the study hypotheses, with which to provide the conclusions reached in the measurement of the variables.

Introducción: Los casos de IRA son más severos, con un mayor número de hospitalizaciones y complicaciones. Este aumento en la demanda de atención médica está saturando los servicios de salud, especialmente en los países en desarrollo. De ahí la necesidad de valorar la participación de las madres en las acciones de prevención. Objetivo: Determinar cómo el conocimiento sobre infecciones respiratorias agudas se relaciona con las actitudes preventivas en madres de niños menores de 5 años que se atienden en el consultorio de pediatría. Metodología: Nuestra investigación empleará una metodología aplicada, utilizando un enfoque cuantitativo y un diseño transversal no experimental. Recopilaremos datos de 109 madres de niños menores de 5 años mediante la administración de dos cuestionarios indígenas que han sido validados y probados como confiables. Una vez que se hayan completado los cuestionarios, los datos se recopilarán, codificarán y registrarán en una matriz de datos. El análisis estadístico se realizará utilizando el programa SPSS 26.0, empleando técnicas tanto descriptivas como inferenciales. Se utilizará la prueba Rho de Spearman para validar y verificar las hipótesis del estudio, permitiéndonos sacar conclusiones precisas sobre la medición de variables.
