Work stress and coping strategies of nursing staff in the hospitalization service of a private clinic, Lima – 2023

Abstract

Objective: To determine the relationship between work stress and coping strategies of nursing staff in the hospitalization area of a private Clinic, Lima, 2023. Methodology: Regarding the methodology, a study was developed with a quantitative approach, of an applied, non-experimental type, with a descriptive, correlational and cross-sectional scope; in a sample of 104 participants; The instruments that allowed data collection were two questionnaires, the Nursing Stress Scale (NSS) questionnaire, which measured the stress variable, and the Stress Coping Questionnaire (CAE), which measured coping strategies. Results: The results show that the participants showed that 64.4% of the participants presented stress at a medium level and 35.6% at a high level; Regarding coping strategies, 66.3% showed a medium level, 30.8% at a low level and 2.9% at a high level. It was determined that there is a relationship between the individual factor dimension and coping strategies, a statistical significance (p=0.000) and a moderate positive correlation (rho = 0.543). There is a relationship between the organizational factor dimension and coping strategies, a statistical significance (p=0.000) and a moderate positive correlation (rho = 0.401). There is a relationship between the environmental factor dimension and coping strategies, with a value of statistical significance of p equal to 0.000 and a high positive correlation equal to 0.712. Conclusion: It is concluded that there is a moderate positive correlation equal to 0.436 and a statistical significance of p equal to 0.000; Therefore, it is evident that there is a relationship between work stress and coping strategies.

Objetivo: Determinar la relación del estrés laboral y las estrategias de afrontamiento del personal de enfermería en el área de hospitalización de una clínica privada, Lima, 2023. Se desarrolló un estudio con enfoque cuantitativo, de tipo aplicado, no experimental, de alcance descriptivo correlacional y transversal; en una muestra de 104 participantes; los instrumentos que permitieron recolectar los datos fueron dos cuestionarios, el cuestionario “Nursing Stress Scale (NSS)” y el “Cuestionario de Afrontamiento del Estrés (CAE). Los resultados evidencian que los participantes evidenciaron que el 64,4% de participantes presentaron estrés al nivel medio; en lo que respecta a las estrategias de afrontamiento el 66,3% evidenciaron un nivel medio. Se determinó que existe relación entre la dimensión factor individual y las estrategias de afrontamiento. Así mismo existe relación entre la dimensión factor organizacional y las estrategias de afrontamiento. Se determinó que existe relación entre la dimensión factor ambiental y las estrategias de afrontamiento.
