Knowledge and practice of nursing staff in the washing of surgical instruments in a hospital in Lima 2022

Abstract

To analyze the correlation between knowledge and practices related to the washing of surgical instruments among the nursing staff working in the sterilization center of the Hospital San Juan de Lurigancho, Lima, during the year 2023. In methodological terms, a quantitative approach will be chosen, following a cross-sectional and observational deductive method. The entire population under study, composed of 80 nursing professionals of the Hospital San Juan de Lurigancho, will be considered for the sample, given the finite nature of the population. The data collection technique will be the survey, using as an instrument a questionnaire that incorporates both closed and open-ended questions. Content validity will be evaluated by means of expert judgments. In the statistical analysis, univariate measures will be used to determine percentages in qualitative variables and measures of central tendency in quantitative variables. For bivariate analysis, the chi-square test will be applied to evaluate the association between qualitative variables. In the comparison of means between categories of a qualitative variable and a quantitative variable, the independent t-test and the one-way analysis of variance will be used, considering statistical significance for p<0.05.

El presente estudio la correlación entre el conocimiento y las prácticas asociadas con el lavado de instrumental quirúrgico entre el personal de enfermería que trabaja en la central de esterilización del Hospital San Juan de Lurigancho, Lima, durante el año 2023. Se empleará un enfoque cuantitativo, utilizando un método deductivo de tipo transversal y observacional. Se considerará la totalidad de la población en estudio, compuesta por 80 profesionales de enfermería del Hospital San Juan de Lurigancho, para la muestra, debido a la naturaleza finita de la población. Se utilizará la encuesta como técnica de recolección de datos, con un cuestionario que incluye preguntas cerradas y abiertas, cuya validez de contenido será evaluada mediante juicios de expertos. En el análisis estadístico, se utilizarán medidas univariadas para determinar porcentajes en variables cualitativas y medidas de tendencia central en variables cuantitativas. Para el análisis bivariado, se aplicará la prueba de chi cuadrado para evaluar la asociación entre variables cualitativas. Se emplearán la prueba t independiente y el análisis de varianza de una vía para comparar medias entre categorías de una variable cualitativa y una variable cuantitativa, considerando una significancia estadística para p<0,05
