Quality of life of family caregivers of children and adolescents with asthma referred to the pediatric pulmonology outpatient clinic, 2020

Abstract

Asthma is the most common chronic disease that, in its acute phase, creates a need for support in transporting the child to a nearby healthcare center and for subsequent daily care. It is known that the care of children and adolescents with asthma leads to partial chronic dependence. This implies the support of a caregiver who accompanies them in the disease control process, generating changes in their daily life, lifestyle, and support relationships. It is important to understand that not only the child with asthma needs attention, but also their caregiver. Objective: To determine the quality of life of the family caregiver of children and adolescents with asthma referred to the pediatric pulmonary outpatient clinic. Material and methods: This is a descriptive quantitative study with a cross-sectional design. The design is non-experimental because the variable will not be deliberately manipulated. The data collection technique used will be the survey. The main variable will be measured using the Asthma Caregiver Quality of Life Questionnaire (PACQLQ), which assesses the quality of life in caregivers of children and adolescents with asthma.

El asma es la enfermedad crónica más común que en su fase aguda genera en el niño una necesidad de soporte para el traslado a un centro de salud cercano y cuidados diarios posteriores. Se conoce que el cuidado del niño y adolescente con asma genera dependencia crónica parcial. Esto implica el apoyo de un cuidador que lo acompañe en el proceso de control de la enfermedad generando cambios en su vida diaria, así como el de su estilo de vida y relaciones de apoyo. Es necesario entender que no solo el niño con asma necesita atención sino también su cuidador Objetivo: determinar la calidad de vida del cuidador familiar del niño y adolescente con asma referidos al consultorio externo de neumología pediátrica. Material y métodos: El presente estudio es de tipo cuantitativo descriptivo, de corte transversal. El diseño es no experimental porque no se manipulará deliberadamente la variable. Para el proceso de recolección de datos se empleará la técnica de encuesta. Para medir la variable principal se utilizará el cuestionario de calidad de vida del cuidador de asma (PACQLQ), el cual mide la calidad de vida en cuidadores de niños y adolescentes con asma.
