Effectiveness of therapeutic massage to increase weight in preterm newborns.

Abstract

In this study, the type of research conducted was a systematic review, consisting of 10 scientific articles found on the effectiveness of therapeutic massage to increase weight in preterm newborns; of these, according to the GRADE classification, 8 studies have high-quality evidence and 2 have moderate-quality evidence. The countries of origin of the evidence were the United States (60%), Brazil (10%), Chile (10%), Iran (10%), and Peru (10%). The following databases were used: Scielo, Medline, Pubmed, all of which recommend analyzing the studies based on the connector scale to determine their strength and quality. Results: Of the 10 articles reviewed, 90% (9/10) show that the use of therapeutic massage in preterm newborns is effective in increasing weight, while 10% of the studies conclude that therapeutic massage does not promote weight gain in this population. Conclusion: Based on the reviewed evidence, we can conclude that therapeutic massage is effective in increasing the weight of preterm newborns.

En el presente estudio el tipo de investigación realizada fue la revisión sistemática, consta de 10 artículos científicos encontrados sobre la efectividad del masaje terapéutico para incrementar el peso en recién nacidos prematuros; de éstos considerando la clasificación GRADE 8 estudios tienen una calidad de evidencia alta y 2 calidad de evidencia moderada. Los países de procedencia de las evidencias fueron estados unidos en un 60 %, Brasil 10 %, Chile 10 %, Irán 10 % y Perú 10 %. Se usaron la siguiente base de datos, Scielo, Medline Pubmed, todos ellos recomiendan analizando sobre la escala de conectores para determinar su fuerza y calidad. RESULTADOS: De los 10 artículos revisados, el 90% (9/10) artículos muestran que el uso del masaje terapéutico en el recién nacido prematuro es efectivo para el incremento de peso y el 10 % de los estudios concluyen que el masaje terapéutico no promueve el incremento de peso en esta población. CONCLUSIONES: Según las evidencias revisadas podemos concluir que el masaje terapéutico para el incremento del peso en recién nacidos prematuros es efectivo.
