Influence of flavonoid intake on the risk of developing colorectal cancer in adults.

Abstract

Colorectal cancer is classified as the third most common cancer and the second most deadly in the world and dietary components can be protective factors. Therefore, the present academic work aims to evaluate updated evidence through a critical clinical commentary on the influence of flavonoid consumption in reducing the risk of developing colorectal cancer in adults. To do so, the five stages of NuBE were used and, through the CASPe tool, the scientific articles were classified according to their degree of evidence. From the review and evaluation process, the article Dietary Flavonoids and the Risk of Colorectal Cancer: An Updated Meta-Analysis of Epidemiological Studies was selected. The study structures, describes and analyzes the data in a manner relevant to the type of study that the authors carry out. The statistical analysis is presented in a concise and precise manner, which would allow the study to be replicated. The discussion raised by the authors highlights the main findings and puts them into context by comparing them with similar works previously published. Finally, it can be concluded that it is necessary to generate more high-level scientific evidence that allows extrapolation of results to the general population.

El cáncer colorrectal está clasificado como el tercer cáncer más común y el segundo más mortal en el mundo y componentes dietarios pueden ser factores protectores. Por ello, el presente trabajo académico tiene como objetivo evaluar evidencia actualizada mediante un comentario crítico clínico acerca de la influencia del consumo de flavonoides en la disminución del riesgo de desarrollar cáncer colorrectal en adultos. Para ello, se trabajó en base a las cinco etapas de la NuBE y a través de la herramienta CASPe se procedió a clasificar los artículos científicos según su grado de evidencia. del proceso de revisión y evaluación se seleccionó el artículo Dietary Flavonoids and the Risk of Colorectal Cancer: An Updated Meta-Analysis of Epidemiological Studies. El estudio estructura, describe y analiza la data de manera pertinente para el tipo de estudio que los autores realizan. El análisis estadístico es presentado de manera concisa y precisa lo que permitiría replicar el estudio. la discusión planteada por los autores resalta los principales hallazgos y los pone en contexto comparándolos con trabajos similares anteriormente publicados. Por último, se puede concluir que es necesario generar más evidencia científica de alto nivel que permita extrapolar resultados a la población en general.
