Level of knowledge and attitudes about the human papilloma virus vaccine among secondary students of a public educational institution in Lima, 2022

Abstract

To determine the relationship between the level of knowledge and attitudes about the Human Papilloma Virus vaccine in high school students of an I.E.P of Lima, 2022. The quantitative, hypothetical deductive, applied type, non-experimental design, descriptive correlational level, and cross-sectional methods were considered; in turn, based on a sample of 90 high school students, evaluation instruments were used to measure knowledge and attitudes about the HPV vaccine, validated and reliable instruments for its application. According to the results regarding the level of knowledge, 2.2 % presented a low level, 71.1 % medium and 26.7 % high; and at the attitude level, 55.6 % presented rejection, 44.4 % indifference and 0 % acceptance regarding the HPV vaccine. Likewise, a relationship was evidenced with a result of (r = -0.213), understood as a low negative correlation and with a statistical significance of (p = 0.044) that does not exceed 0.05. Regarding the relationship between the level of knowledge and attitudes about the Human Papilloma Virus vaccine in high school students of an I.E.P of Lima, 2022, It was determined that there is a relationship between the variables with a statistical significance of (p = 0.044) being less than 0.05.

Determinar la relación entre el nivel de conocimiento y actitudes sobre la vacuna del virus del papiloma humano en estudiantes de secundaria de una I.E.P de Lima, 2022. Se tomaron en cuenta los métodos de enfoque cuantitativo, hipotético deductivo, de tipo aplicada, de diseño no experimental, de nivel descriptivo correlacional y de corte transversal. Se utilizó una muestra de 90 estudiantes de secundaria y se hizo uso de instrumentos de evaluación, previamente validados y confiables para su aplicación, para medir el conocimiento y las actitudes sobre la vacuna del VPH. Considerando los resultados obtenidos sobre el nivel de conocimiento, se dio a conocer que el 2.2 % presentó un nivel bajo; el 71.1%, un nivel medio; el 26.7%, un nivel alto. En el nivel de actitud, el 55.6 % presentó rechazo; el 44.4 %, indiferencia y el 0 %; aceptación respecto a la vacuna sobre VPH. Asimismo, se evidenció una relación con un resultado de (r = -0,213), lo cual se traduce como una correlación negativa baja y con una significancia estadística de (p = 0,044) que no excede a 0,05. En lo que respecta a la relación entre el nivel de conocimiento y actitudes sobre la vacuna del virus del papiloma humano en estudiantes de secundaria de una I.E.P de Lima 2022, se determinó que existe relación entre las variables con una significancia estadística de (p = 0,044); es decir, es menor a 0,05.
