Construction and validation of an instrument on oral hygiene measures and care in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic in Peru 2021

Objective: The objective of this research was to establish the content validity of an instrument to assess the level of knowledge about oral hygiene measures and care in response to the COVID-19 pandemic in Peru in 2021, among students of the Monseñor Fidel Olivas Escudero State School, secondary level, aged 12 to 17 years. Material and Methods: The study used a deductive approach, quantitative focus, and psychometric validation of a measurement instrument, with an observational design and longitudinal scope. The sample focused on 70 secondary students, both female and male, aged 12 to 17, who were administered a questionnaire virtually via a Google Forms survey. The instrument was validated through expert judgment before application, and after 20 days, the instrument was reapplied. Results: The instrument showed content validity with an approval category of 0.8-0.92 and construct validity with a bifactorial model. It also demonstrated internal consistency with strong reliability (Cronbach’s alpha values of 0.901 and 0.900 for the instruments "Oral Hygiene Measures" and "Oral Hygiene Care," respectively) and strong stability (intraclass correlation coefficient of 0.964, statistically significant with p = 0.000). Conclusion: The instrument has content validity, reliability, construct validity, and stability for assessing the level of knowledge about oral hygiene measures and care in response to the COVID-19 pandemic in Peru in 2021.
Resumen
El objetivo de esta investigación fue instaurar la validez de contenido de un instrumento para calcular el nivel de conocimiento de medidas y cuidados de higiene bucal frente a la pandemia del COVID-19 en Perú 2021, en estudiantes del colegio estatal Monseñor Fidel Olivas Escudero, nivel secundario, entre 12 a 17 años. El material y método fue deductivo, de enfoque cuantitativo y tipo de validación psicométrica de un instrumento de medición, el diseño observacional, de corte longitudinal. La muestra estuvo enfocada en 70 estudiantes de secundaria, de sexo femenino y masculino, entre 12 y 17 años, a los que se aplicó virtualmente un cuestionario mediante formulario creado en Google forms; fue validado por juicio de expertos antes de ejecutar el instrumento y luego de 20 días se volvió a aplicar el instrumento. Los resultados indican que el instrumento tiene validez de contenido con una categoría de aprobación de 0.8-0.92 y una validez de constructo con un modelo bifactorial; se demostró también su consistencia interna con una fuerte confiabilidad (valores del alfa de Cronbach de 0.901 y 0.900, para los instrumentos (Medidas de higiene bucal y Cuidados de higiene bucal respectivamente) y una fuerte estabilidad (Coeficiente de correlación intraclase 0.964, estadísticamente significativa con p = 000). Se concluye que el instrumento tiene validez de contenido, confiabilidad, validez de constructo y estabilidad para calcular el nivel de conocimiento de medidas y cuidados de higiene bucal frente a la pandemia COVID-19 en Perú 2021.
