Human values and burnout syndrome in students of the 8th and 9th cycle of the academic professional school of dentistry of the Norbert Wiener Private University – Lima, 2023

Abstract

The objective of this study was to determine the relationship between human values and burnout syndrome in 8th and 9th semester students of the School of Dentistry at the Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener in Lima, 2023. The research adopted a quantitative approach with a descriptive correlational design, non-experimental, and cross-sectional in nature. A questionnaire was used to collect data from a sample of 120 students. The results of the analysis showed that 73.3% of students expressed a high level of human values, while 75.8% showed an intermediate level in relation to burnout syndrome. Interestingly, 58.3% of students with high human values also reported experiencing burnout syndrome at a medium level. In conclusion, a significant association between human values and burnout syndrome was identified, supported by the Spearman correlation coefficients (Rho = 0.25, p = 0.006), which highlight the interdependence between these two variables. These results emphasize the need to consider the dimension of human values when addressing the prevention and management of burnout syndrome in the educational context of dentistry

El presente estudio tuvo por objetivo determinar la relación entre los valores humanos y el síndrome de Burnout en estudiantes de 8° y 9° ciclo de la Escuela Académico Profesional de Odontología de la Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener en Lima, 2023. La investigación adoptó un enfoque cuantitativo con un diseño descriptivo correlacional, de carácter no experimental y de corte transversal. Se empleó un cuestionario para recolectar datos de una muestra compuesta por 120 estudiantes. Los resultados del análisis muestran que el 73.3% de los estudiantes manifiestan un nivel elevado de valores humanos, mientras que un 75.8% exhibe un nivel intermedio en relación al síndrome de Burnout. Interesantemente, un 58.3% de los estudiantes presentan valores humanos calificados como altos, coincidiendo con la experimentación de un síndrome de Burnout en nivel medio. Como conclusión, se identificó una significativa asociación entre los valores humanos y el síndrome de Burnout sustentada en los coeficientes de correlación de Spearman obtenidos (Rho = 0.25, p = 0.006), que subrayan la interdependencia entre estas dos variables. Estos resultados enfatizan la necesidad de considerar la dimensión de los valores humanos al abordar la prevención y gestión del síndrome de Burnout en el contexto educativo de la odontología.
