Knowledge and practices about exclusive breastfeeding in mothers who attend the center maternal and infant Mexico, 2023

Abstract

At the Mexico Maternal and Child Center, mothers of children under six months old visit daily, ranging from first-time mothers to adolescents and very young women. Many of them lack fundamental knowledge about breastfeeding and are therefore unaware of the benefits of exclusive breastfeeding for both their children and themselves. This highlights the necessity for nursing professionals to share their expertise with these mothers, helping them understand the importance of breastfeeding. Breast milk, as a key nutritional element, can prevent diseases and support healthy growth and development for their babies.

En el Centro Materno Infantil México, a diario acuden madres de niños menores de 6 meses de todas las edades ya sean primerizas, adolescentes y muy jóvenes quienes carecen de conocimientos fundamentales de la lactancia materna y por ende no son conscientes de los beneficios de la lactancia materna exclusiva tanto para su hijo y ellas mismas; es decir, se hace necesario que los profesionales de enfermería impartan sus conocimientos hacia ellas para hacerles tomar conciencia de alimentar a su niño o niña con la lecha materna elemento nutritivo para evitarles enfermedades para mantener un crecimiento y desarrollo saludable.
