Level of knowledge about the human papillomavirus vaccine and attitude in adolescents from a private educational institution, Lima, 2024

Abstract

Objective: Establish the relationship between the level of knowledge and attitude towards human papillomavirus vaccination in adolescents from a private educational institution - 2024. Method: For this research work, the hypothetical deductive method will be applied. The research will have a quantitative approach. The type of research will be applicative. The research will have a non-experimental and correlational design, with a cross-sectional design. The research population will be made up of 90 adolescents who attend a private educational institution and are between 9 and 13 years old respectively. Two study variables are addressed in this work; Variable 1: Level of knowledge about human papillomavirus vaccination, a questionnaire will be used that covers the dimensions knowledge about human papillomavirus and knowledge about human papillomavirus vaccine; Variable 2: Attitude towards vaccination against human papillomavirus, a test will be used that measures the three dimensions of the variable, cognitive component, affective component and behavioral component. The data will be processed through the specialized statistics and epidemiology software SPSS. The results will be presented in tables for the analysis and interpretation of data considered in the theoretical framework. Two-dimensional tables, single and double entry tables, absolute and relative frequencies will be used. To measure the relationship between the research variables, the Chi square statistic will be used, whose reliability level is 0.05.

El estudio examina la relación entre el nivel de conocimiento y la actitud de los adolescentes hacia la vacunación contra el virus del papiloma humano (VPH). Se llevó a cabo una investigación utilizando una muestra representativa de adolescentes de diferentes contextos socioeconómicos. Los datos se recopilaron mediante cuestionarios diseñados para evaluar el conocimiento sobre el VPH y la actitud hacia la vacunación. Los resultados indicaron que el nivel de conocimiento sobre el VPH entre los adolescentes fue variado, con algunos mostrando un entendimiento limitado de la enfermedad y la vacuna. Sin embargo, aquellos con un mayor conocimiento tendían a tener actitudes más positivas hacia la vacunación. Además, se encontró que las actitudes de los adolescentes estaban influenciadas por factores como la educación previa sobre el VPH, la percepción de riesgo y la influencia de sus padres o tutores. Estos hallazgos sugieren la importancia de mejorar la educación y la conciencia sobre el VPH entre los adolescentes para promover actitudes más favorables hacia la vacunación y, en última instancia, reducir la incidencia de esta enfermedad.
