Skin muscle pain associated with labour position in students of the dental clinic at Norbert Wiener University, Lima - 2018

Abstract

The objective of this research was to determine whether there is a relationship between musculoskeletal pain and work posture in students from the dental clinic at Universidad Norbert Wiener, Lima 2018. It was a correlational, inductive, and cross-sectional study, with 81 students participating. The "Nordic Kuorinka" instrument was used to identify musculoskeletal pain symptoms, and the B.H.O.P (Balance Human Operating Position) was used to assess work posture. Data processing was done using the SPSS statistical software, version 24.0, and the Chi-square test of Pearson was applied for statistical analysis. The results showed that 85% of the students experienced musculoskeletal pain, while 15% did not. In terms of anatomical regions, the neck and back were where the most symptoms were reported. Regarding work posture, 90% of the students exhibited improper posture. According to postural verification (minimal cervical flexion, distance from the head to the working field of 30–35 cm, and the operator sitting with a straight back), these were the most common postural issues. The study concluded that there is a statistically significant relationship between musculoskeletal pain and work posture in the neck and back areas among students.

La presente investigación, tuvo como objetivo determinar si existe relación entre el dolor músculo-esquelético y la postura laboral en alumnos de la clínica odontológica en la Universidad Norbert Wiener, Lima 2018. Fue un estudio de nivel correlacional, inductivo y de corte transversal, participaron 81 alumnos. Se utilizó el instrumento Nórdico de Kuorinka”, para hallar los síntomas de dolor músculo esquelético y para la postura laboral el B.H.O.P (Balance Human Operating Position). En el procesamiento de datos se usó el programa estadístico SPSS, versión 24.0, y para la prueba estadística se aplicó la prueba Chi cuadrado de Pearson. Los resultados fueron 85% de los alumnos presentan dolor musculo esquelético, mientras que 15% no presenta, según la región anatomía, el cuello y la espalda es donde presentan mayor sintomatología, según la postura laboral el 90% de los alumnos presentan una postura inadecuada, según la verificación postural ( la flexión cervical mínima, la distancia de la cabeza al campo operatorio de 30 – 35 cm, y el operador sentado espalda recta) son las que presentan mayor porcentaje de postura inadecua. Se concluye que si existe relación estadísticamente significativa entre el dolor músculo esquelético y la postura laboral en la zona del cuello y la espalda en los alumnos.
