Gender determination through the Tsuchihashi-Suzuki cheiloscopic technique in the first and second cycle of the Norbert Wiener University School of Dentistry, 2019

Abstract

The objective of this study was to determine gender using the Tsuchihashi-Suzuki cheiloscopic technique in first and second cycle students of the School of Dentistry at Norbert Wiener University in 2019. This was a descriptive, observational, relational, and cross-sectional study. A total of 70 students participated through a non-probabilistic double-blind sampling method. A cheiloscopic data sheet was used as the instrument. Data processing was done using SPSS version 24.0, and the Chi-square test was applied to determine the association between gender determination and the Tsuchihashi-Suzuki cheiloscopic technique. Results: For females, the most frequent cheiloscopic pattern by quadrant was type II with 88.7%, followed by type Ia with 40%, type Ib with 39.9%, type III with 15.7%, type IV with 15.8%, and type V was not observed. For males, the most frequent pattern was type III with 95.7%, followed by type IV with 74.3%, type II with 15.8%, type Ib with 5.7%, type Ia with 2.9%, and type V with 8.6%. Conclusion: Gender could be determined by studying lip impressions using the Tsuchihashi-Suzuki cheiloscopic technique.

El objetivo fue determinar el género mediante la técnica queiloscópica de Tsuchihashi -Suzuki en los alumnos de primer y segundo ciclo de la Escuela de Odontología de la Universidad Norbert Wiener-2019. Fue un estudio de tipo descriptivo, observacional, relacional y de corte transversal. Participaron 70 alumnos mediante un muestreo no probabilístico doble ciego. Se usó una ficha queiloscópica como instrumento. Para el procesamiento de datos se usó el programa estadístico SPSS, versión 24.0 y se aplicó la prueba Chi cuadrado para determinar la asociación que existe entre la determinación de género y la técnica queiloscópica de Tsuchihashi –Suzuki. Resultados: para el género femenino el patrón queiloscópico por cuadrante con mayor frecuencia fue el tipo II con el 88,7% seguidos del tipo Ia con el (40%), tipo Ib (39,9%), tipo III (15,7%), tipo IV (15,8%) y el tipo V no se visualizó y para el masculino el tipo III con el 95,7% seguidos del tipo IV con el (74,3%), tipo II (15,8%), tipo III (15,7%), tipo V (8,6%), tipo Ib (5,7%) y el tipo Ia con el (2,9%). Se concluyó que si se puedo determinar el género mediante el estudio de las impresiones labiales con la técnica queiloscópica de Tsuchihashi- Suzuki.
