Relationship between the quality of the family environment and psychomotor development in 3-year-old children from the La Huaca human settlement.

Abstract

The main objective of the research was to determine the relationship between the quality of the family environment and the psychomotor development of 3-year-old children from the AAHH La Huaca, within the jurisdiction of the Infantas Health Center, Los Olivos, in April–May 2017. The study methodology is descriptive correlational, quantitative, and cross-sectional. The population consisted of 32 families, and the instruments used were the TEPSI Test and the Home Inventory. The results showed that the prevailing family environment quality in the study population was inadequate, with 71.9% (23) families, whose children 37.5% (12) had psychomotor developmental delay and 34.4% (11) were at risk. This was followed by families with moderate quality at 28.1% (9), whose children 18.8% (6) showed normal psychomotor development and 9.4% (3) were at risk. No families were found with an adequate family environment quality. Based on the analysis of the results and hypothesis testing using the Spearman correlation statistical test, with a p-value of 0.000, it was concluded that there is a relationship between the quality of the family environment and the psychomotor development of 3-year-old children. Additionally, most mothers do not attend or take their children on time to the Growth and Development control check-ups.

El principal objetivo de la investigación fue determinar la relación entre la calidad del ambiente familiar y el desarrollo psicomotor de los niños de 3 años del AAHH La Huaca, jurisdicción del Centro de Salud Infantas. Los Olivos. Abril – Mayo 2017. La metodología del estudio es descriptivo correlacional, cuantitativo y de corte transversal. La población estuvo constituida por 32 familias, se usó como instrumentos el Test de TEPSI y el Inventario Home. Los resultados mostraron que la calidad del ambiente familiar que prevalece en la población de estudio, es la calidad inadecuada con 71.9% (23) familias, cuyos hijos 37.5% (12) tienen retraso en el desarrollo psicomotor y 34.4% (11) están en riesgo. Seguido de las familias con calidad moderada por el 28.1% (9), los hijos de estas familias 18.8% (6) presentan desarrollo psicomotor normal y el 9.4% (3) están en riesgo. No se encontró ninguna familia con calidad del ambiente familiar adecuado. Del análisis de los resultados y elección de la hipótesis mediante la prueba estadística de correlación de Spearman donde el P valor es 0.000, se concluye que existe relación entre la calidad del ambiente familiar y el desarrollo psicomotor de los niños de 3 años, así mismo la mayoría de madres no asisten, ni llevan a sus hijos a tiempo al control de Crecimiento y Desarrollo.
