Body Mass Index and Hemoglobin Related to Oral Health in Secondary Level Adolescents at the Jacques Cousteau Private Educational Institution, Carabayllo - 2022

Abstract

The objective of this study was to determine the relationship between body mass index (BMI) and hemoglobin levels concerning oral health in adolescents at the secondary level in the Jacques Cousteau Private Educational Institution, Carabayllo – 2022. Methodology: A quantitative approach was used with a non-experimental design and correlational scope, involving a total of 70 secondary school students. Instruments used included the BMI observation sheet, a hemoglobin test, and the CPOD index to assess oral health. Results: The results showed that hemoglobin and oral health had a significance of 0.00, which is less than 0.05, and a Pearson correlation of 0.468, indicating a moderate positive correlation. On the other hand, BMI and its relationship with oral health did not show significance, as it was 0.691, which is greater than 0.05. Conclusion: Therefore, it was concluded that oral health is related to hemoglobin levels, but it does not show an association with BMI.

El estudio tuvo como objetivo determinar la relación del índice de masa corporal y hemoglobina respecto a la salud bucal en adolescentes del nivel secundario en la Institución Educativa particular Jacques Cousteau, Carabayllo – 2022.Metodología: Se consideró una metodología asociada al enfoque cuantitativo, con un diseño no experimental y un alcance correlacional, trabajó con un total de 70 estudiantes del nivel secundario, haciendo uso de instrumentos tales como, la ficha de observación del IMC y un examen de hemoglobina, asimismo se empleó el Índice CPOD para hallar la salud bucal de los estudiantes. Resultados: Respecto a los resultados se identificó que, la hemoglobina y la salud bucal presentaron una significancia de 0.00, siendo menor al 0.05 y una correlación de Pearson de 0.468, siendo esta moderada positiva. Por otro lado, el IMC y su relación con la salud bucal no presentaron significancia, pues fue de 0,691 siendo mayor al 0.05.
