Level of knowledge about diabetes mellitus 2 and adherence to treatment in patients of the emergency service of a public hospital-Lima, 2023

Abstract

According to the World Health Organization (WHO) age-specific mortality from Diabetes Mellitus DM2 has increased by 3% between 2000 and 2019. Thus, patient adherence to antidiabetic drug therapy results in better control of the disease. Therefore, the general objective of this study was to determine the relationship between the level of knowledge about diabetes mellitus 2 and adherence to treatment in patients in the emergency department of a public hospital in Lima, 2023. Materials and Methods: The present study will have a quantitative approach, applied and non-experimental cross-sectional design. Population of 120 patients and sample of 91 patients with DM2 > 18 years old. As technique and instruments, the survey and two questionnaires respectively. Similarly, two questionnaires will be used as instruments, validated by the work of Tello (2021). For reliability, the KR 20 statistical reliability test will be applied for variable 1 and Cronbach's alpha test for variable 2. The data collected will be processed with SPSS 26.0 software and Microsoft Excel to display the data in simple and double entry tables with their respective graphs, also inferential statistics will be used for hypothesis testing with Spearman's Rho test to test whether the items of the variable knowledge about DM2 have a relationship with the variable adherence to DM2 treatment.

Según la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS) la mortalidad por Diabetes Mellitus DM2 específicamente por edad ha aumentado en un 3% entre 2000 y 2019. Así, la adherencia del paciente a la terapia con medicamentos antidiabéticos da como resultado un mejor control de la enfermedad. Por ello, este estudio se ha propuesto como Objetivo general: Determinar cuál es la relación que existe entre nivel de conocimiento sobre diabetes mellitus 2 y adherencia al tratamiento en pacientes del Servicio de Emergencia de un Hospital Público-Lima, 2023. Materiales y Métodos: El presente estudio será de enfoque cuantitativo, de tipo aplicada y de diseño no experimental de corte transversal. Población de 120 pacientes con DM2 > de 18 años. Como técnica e instrumentos, la encuesta y dos cuestionarios respectivamente. Del mismo modo se realizarán dos cuestionarios como instrumentos, validados por el trabajo de Tello (2021). Los datos recolectados serán procesados con el software SPSS 26.0 y Microsoft Excel para mostrar los datos en tablas simples y de doble entrada con sus respectivos gráficos, también se utilizará la estadística inferencial para la prueba de hipótesis con la prueba Rho de Spearman para comprobar si los ítems de la variable conocimiento sobre DM2 tienen relación con la variable adherencia al tratamiento de DM2.
