Primary caregiver overload and degree of dependence of the elderly patient on peritoneal dialysis in a national hospital in Lima, Lima-2022

Abstract

Objective: determine the relationship that exists between the overload of the primary caregiver and the degree of dependence of the elderly on peritoneal dialysis in a National Hospital of Lima, 2022. Material and method: It was a basic research, I used the hypothetical deductive method, quantitative approach and non-experimental design. The population consisted of 100 older adult patients enrolled in the peritoneal dialysis program. To collect the information, two instruments validated in previous studies were used: the Zarit scale to assess caregiver overload and the Barthel dependency index to assess the degree of dependency of the older adult. The statistical analysis calculations were carried out through SPSS statistical software, to compile the correlation results, the Spearman Rho test statistic was used, which yielded -0.096 and a p - value of 0.342, which concludes that there is no relationship between both variables.

Objetivo: determinar la relación que existe entre la sobrecarga del cuidador primario y el grado de dependencia del adulto mayor en diálisis peritoneal en un Hospital Nacional de Lima, 2022. Material y método: Fue una investigación básica, utilizo el método hipotético deductivo, enfoque cuantitativo y diseño no experimental. La población estuvo constituida por 100 pacientes adultos mayores adscritos al programa de diálisis peritoneal. Para la recopilación de la información se utilizó dos instrumentos validados en estudios anteriores: la escala de Zarit para valorar la sobrecarga del cuidador y el índice de dependencia de Barthel para valorar el grado de dependencia del adulto mayor. Los cálculos de análisis estadístico se realizaron a través de software estadístico SPSS, para la contratación de los resultados de correlación se empleó la estadística de la prueba Rho de Spearman el cual arrojo -0,096 y un p – valor de 0,342, con lo cual se concluye que no existe relación entre ambas variables.
