Risk of vaccines containing thimerosal being associated with autism spectrum disorder in children

Abstract

Objective: Systematize the evidence about the risk of vaccines containing Thimerosal being associated with autism spectrum disorder in children. Materials and Methods: Retrospective quantitative systematic review, subjected to critical selection. The definitive selection of scientific articles synthesizes the results of multiple primary investigations, which were found in the following databases: Decs, Bvs, PubMed, Cochrane Plus and Scielo. The search has been restricted to articles with full text, and the 10 selected articles were subjected to critical reading, using the GRADE system to identify their level of evidence. Results: 50% (n=05/10) of the scientific evidence consulted; which have high evidence, indicate that the Thimerosal contained in vaccines is not associated with Autism Spectrum Disorder, thus demonstrating that vaccines are safe and reduce the high rates of childhood morbidity and mortality, therefore, they improve the child's quality of life. . Conclusion: The study of the 10 scientific articles reviewed determined that there is no risk that vaccines containing Thimerosal are associated with autism spectrum disorder.

Objetivo: Sistematizar la evidencia acerca del riesgo de las vacunas que contienen Timerosal se asocie a trastorno del espectro autista en niños. Materiales y Métodos: Revisión Sistemática retrospectiva de tipo cuantitativo, sometidos a selección crítica. La selección definitiva de artículos científicos sintetiza los resultados de múltiples investigaciones primarias, los cuales fueron hallados en las siguientes bases de datos: Decs, Bvs, PubMed, Cochrane Plus y Scielo. La búsqueda se ha restringido a artículos con texto completo, y los 10 artículos seleccionados se sometieron a una lectura crítica, utilizando el sistema GRADE para identificar su grado de evidencia. Resultados: El 50% (n=05/10) de las evidencias científicas consultadas; las cuales tienen una evidencia alta, señalan que el Timerosal que contienen las vacunas no se asocian al Trastorno del Espectro Autista, demostrando así que las vacunas son seguras y reducen las altas tasas de morbimortalidad infantil, por ende, mejoran la calidad de vida del niño. Conclusión: El estudio de los 10 artículos científicos revisados, determinan que no existe riesgo de que las vacunas que contienen Timerosal se asocie con el trastorno del espectro autista.
