Effectiveness of a Manual Therapy Program on Physical Activity and Functionality of the Knee in a Patient with Knee Arthrosis at the Villa Salud Polyclinic, Lima 2023

Abstract

Physical therapy is important in the treatment of osteoarthritis, as it is one of the ten most disabling conditions, affecting 50% of people over 65 years of age. The Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (KOOS-12) measures the functional capacity of patients with knee osteoarthritis, which includes several dimensions. The International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) is used to measure physical activity, consisting of several questions regarding types of activity. Objective: To determine the effectiveness of a manual therapy program on physical activity and knee functionality in patients with knee osteoarthritis. Research type: It is a quasi-experimental study with a quantitative approach and a longitudinal design. Data will be collected at different times. A pre-test will be applied to both groups, with one receiving the experimental treatment and the other not (control group). At the end, a post-test will be conducted for both groups. The KOOS-12 questionnaire, with a validity coefficient of 0.85, is interpreted as excellent validity, and the IPAQ-SF questionnaire has a validity of 0.89, which is also interpreted as excellent validity.

La fisioterapia es importante en el tratamiento de las gonartrosis, ya que pertenece a las diez patologías más discapacitantes afectando un 50% a las personas mayores de 65 años, el Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (KOOS-12) mide la capacidad funcional de pacientes con artrosis de rodillas donde consta de varias dimensiones y con el Cuestionario Internacional de Actividad Física (IPAQ) se usa para medir la actividad física donde consta de varias preguntas sobre los tipos de actividad. Objetivo: Determinar efectividad de un programa de terapia manual en la actividad física y funcionalidad de rodilla en pacientes con artrosis de rodilla. Tipo de la investigación: es un estudio cuasi experimental de enfoque cuantitativo y de corte longitudinal. Los datos se recolectarán en diferentes tiempos. Se aplicará una pre-prueba a ambos grupos y uno de ellos recibirá el tratamiento experimental y el otro no (grupo control). Al final se realizará el post prueba a ambos grupos. El cuestionario de KOOS-12, con validez obtuvo un 0.85 lo cual se interpreta como excelente validez y el cuestionario IPAQ-SF tiene un valor de 0.89 el cual se interpreta como excelente validez.
