Work stress and quality of care of the nursing staff at the Huaycán hospital, Lima 2023

Abstract

The objective of this research was "to determine how work stress is related to the quality of care in the nursing staff of a Hospital, Lima 2023". The methodology used was the hypothetical-deductive method, quantitative approach, applied with a non-experimental design. The sample consisted of 80 nursing professionals and 80 patients of the Huaycán Hospital, Lima 2023. The Nursing Stress Scale (NSS) was applied as an instrument to measure the level of work stress of the nurses, and the Nursing Care Quality Scale based on the SERVQUAL model was also applied to measure the quality of care. The results showed that 55% of the personnel presented a high level of work stress, while 47.5% of the patients reported that the quality of care provided by the nursing personnel was low. In addition, a Spearman correlation coefficient of -0.792 and a p-value of 0.000 were found, indicating a considerable and significant inverse correlation, which led to the conclusion that there is a statistically significant relationship between work stress and quality of care in nursing staff at the Huaycán hospital, Lima 2023.

La presente investigación tuvo como objetivo “determinar cómo se relaciona el estrés laboral con la calidad de atención en el personal de enfermería del Hospital de Huaycán, Lima 2023”. En la metodología se empleó el método Hipotético-deductivo, enfoque cuantitativo, de tipo aplicada con diseño no experimental. La muestra estuvo conformada por 80 profesionales de enfermería y 80 pacientes del Hospital de Huaycán, Lima 2023. Como instrumento se aplicó la Escala de Estrés de Enfermería (NSS) para medir el nivel de estrés laboral de los enfermeros, también se aplicó la Escala de Calidad de Atención de Enfermería basado en el modelo SERVQUAL para medir la calidad de atención, en los resultados se reflejó que el 55% de personal presentó alto nivel de estrés laboral, mientras que un 47.5% de los pacientes reportaron que la calidad de atención baja por parte del personal de enfermería. Además, se halló un coeficiente de correlación de Spearman de -0,792 y un valor p de 0,000, indicando una correlación inversa considerable y significativa, por lo que se llegó a la conclusión de que existe una relación estadísticamente significativa entre el estrés laboral y la calidad de atención en personal de enfermería del hospital de Huaycán, Lima 2023.
