Malocclusion and its relationship with the type of breastfeeding in patients at the Norbert Wiener University Clinic, Lima 2023

Abstract

This thesis aimed to determine the relationship between malocclusion and breastfeeding type in patients aged 6 to 13 years treated at the Universidad Norbert Wiener Dental Clinic in Lima, 2023. A quantitative, applied, observational study design was used, with data collection being cross-sectional. For this, 70 children aged 6 to 13 who attended the dental center were evaluated, and a structured data collection form was used in three sections: the first collected personal data of the children; the second gathered information on breastfeeding type and duration; and the last section covered the type of malocclusion. It was found that 38.6% of the children had Class I malocclusion type 1, and of these, 17.1% received exclusive breastfeeding. Regarding the dimensions by malocclusion type, 54% of the children with Class I malocclusion had Class I type 1, and 24.0% of these were exclusively breastfed; of the children with Class II malocclusion, 50.0% had Class II div 2, and 25.0% of these received exclusive breastfeeding; of the children with Class III malocclusion, 37.5% had Class III type 3, and 12.5% of these were exclusively breastfed. Furthermore, the hypothesis test showed that the p-value was greater than 0.05, accepting H0, indicating that there is no relationship between the variables. It was concluded that there is no relationship between malocclusion and breastfeeding type in patients treated at the Universidad Norbert Wiener Dental Clinic in Lima, 2023.

La presente tesis buscó determinar la relación entre maloclusión y el tipo de lactancia en pacientes de 6 a 13 años atendidos en Clínica Odontológica Universidad Norbert Wiener, Lima, 2023. Se diseñó un estudio cuantitativo, aplicada, de diseño observacional y su recolección de datos fue transversal. Para el desarrollo del mismo, se evaluó a 70 niños de 6 a 13 años que asistieron al centro odontológico y se utilizó una ficha de recolección de datos estructurada en tres unidades: la primera, se recolectó los datos de filiación de los niños; la segunda, información sobre el tipo y tiempo de lactancia y la última sección conformada por el tipo de maloclusión. Se pudo evidenciar que del total de los niños el 38.6% presentaron maloclusión clase I tipo 1 y de estos el 17.1% recibieron lactancia materna exclusiva. Respecto a las dimensiones por tipo de maloclusión, de los niños con maloclusión clase I, el 54% presentaron maloclusión clase I tipo 1, de estos el 24.0% recibieron lactancia materna exclusiva; de los niños con maloclusión clase II el 50.0% presentaron maloclusión clase II div 2, de estos el 25.0% recibieron lactancia materna exclusiva y niños con maloclusión clase III el 37.5% presentaron maloclusión clase III tipo 3, de estos el 12.5% recibieron lactancia materna exclusiva; así mismo en la prueba de hipótesis se encontró que el valor p es mayor a 0.05, aceptando la H0, evidenciando que no existe relación entre las variables; concluyendo que No existe relación entre maloclusiones y el tipo de lactancia en pacientes atendidos en la Clínica Odontológica Universidad Norbert Wiener, Lima 2023.
