Perception of culture and patient safety related to attitude to adverse event reporting in nurses of the emergency department of a hospital in Lima-2024

Abstract

Nurses play a crucial role in promoting a patient safety culture. They are in direct contact with patients and closest to potential risks. From the perspective of nursing staff, a patient safety culture is characterized by the following aspects: trust, communication, and collaboration. Objective: “To determine the relationship between the perception of patient safety culture and the attitude toward reporting adverse events among nurses in the emergency department of a hospital in Lima-2024.” Methodology: Hypothetical-deductive method, non-experimental design, quantitative method, descriptive, applied correlation method, and cross-sectional method. The census sample will consist of 75 emergency nurses, and the tools used for the research will be the Patient Safety Culture Perception Questionnaire—modified by Núñez—and the Adverse Event Reporting Attitude Questionnaire—modified by Gonzales. Both instruments were validated by the mentioned researchers and have high reliability. Data collection will take approximately 30 minutes for participants. Additionally, Spearman’s Correlation analysis will be used to test the hypothesis.

Las enfermeras desempeñas un rol primordial en la promoción de la cultura de seguridad del paciente. Son los que están en contacto directo con los pacientes y los que están más cerca de los riesgos potenciales. Desde la percepción del personal de enfermería, una cultura de seguridad del paciente se caracteriza por los siguientes aspectos: la confianza, la comunicación y la colaboración. Objetivo: “Determinar cuál es la relación entre percepción de cultura y seguridad del paciente con la actitud al reporte de eventos adversos en enfermeras del servicio de emergencia de un Hospital de Lima-2024”. Metodología: Método hipotético-deductivo, diseño no experimental, método cuantitativo, descriptivo, método de correlación aplicada, método transversal; la muestra censal estará conformada por 75 enfermeras de emergencias y la herramienta utilizada para el trabajo de investigación será el cuestionario de percepción de la cultura de seguridad del paciente-modificado de Núñez. El cuestionario de actitud al reporte de eventos adversos-modificado de Gonzales. Ambos instrumentos fueron validados por los investigadores mencionados y tienen una alta confiabilidad. La recolección de datos toma alrededor de 30 minutos para los participantes. Así mismo para la constatación de la hipótesis se empleará el análisis de Correlación de Spearman.
